Effect of L-DOPA for BM-MSCs proliferation on titanium surface

초록

영어

Many implants have been researched by immobilization of biomolecules on biomaterials such as titanium. L-DOPA was attached on surfacemodified titanium as biomolecule to manufacture amine groups. We were able to find dopamine which had been adhered to titanium surface
by AFM images. The quantifications of amine groups on positive control and experiment group were approximately 3μg and 7.5μg individually. Water contact angles of non-treated titanium disc (negative control), etched titanium disc (positive control) and titanium disc treated with a
dopamine after etching process (experiment group) were 82.4±5.7°, 67.1±0.56° and 44.15±0.91° individually. The number of human bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (BM-MSCs) in the experimental group was higher than that of cells in any other group. Therefore, our report
proposed the possibility of a causal link between increased dopamine content and cell proliferation in BM-MSCs. In addition, coating of the discs with dopamine can result in greater hydrophilicity of the titanium surface and enhancement of cell adhesion.
