As a noble antibacterial material, TiO2 nanoparticles have received increasing attention in recent years for their good properties as a stable, long lasting, safe and broad-spectrum antibiosis. Especially TiO2 nanoparticles containing Ag have been widely used as a filler in the manufacture of antibacterial plastics, coatings, functional fibers, dishware and medical facilities, because Ag has a strong antibacterial activity against many kinds of bacteria even at low concentrations. In
this study, the antibacterial effect of Ag-TiO2 was investigated based on the different percentage of inactivation of Escherichia.coli treated by Ag-TiO2 with different surface coverage of nanosized Ag. Higher surface coverage of nanosized Ag on TiO2 exhibited more effective antibacterial activities as compared with relatively low surface coverage of nanosized Ag.
