In this study, electrical performance of the sediment microbial fuel cell (MFC) was investigated. Water tanks (50×50×50cm), which were filled with lake sediment (10 cm in depth) and lake water were used as a fuel for MFC operation. Each water tank contained four sets of MFCs. When
the potential of a single MFC was measured, the maximum value was reached at 0.8V. In the case of serial connection with four MFCs in a single tank, the maximum potential was about 1.2 V. A reason for the low voltage was proved that the low cell to cell resistances, which is mainly
due to the adjacent location of among the MFC sets in a single tank. When an additional fuel tank which has four serially MFCs was connected to the presence tank, about 2.1 V of the constant potential was developed. The experimental result showed that the electrical energy from the serially connected MFCs with suitable electrical link produced enough potential to lighten a conventional LED.
