Three Geobacillus strains, TY1, TY2 and TY3, were isolated from Tae-baek mountain in Korea. The taxonomical position of bacteriums were investigated using morphological, biochemical and genetic techniques. The 16S rDNA sequence analysis strongly indicated that these were most closely related to Geobacillus sp. The antimicrobial activities of these isolates were investigated in vitro against Gram positive bacterials and Gram negative bacterials including Microccocus luteus, Staphyllococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, Proteus mirabillis and Proteus vulgaris. TY1,
TY2 and TY3 were also able to inhibit the growth of Methicllin-Resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA).These results showed that TY1. YT2 and TY3 were a new resource in the development of antimicrobial agents and anti-MRSA agents.
