Nowadays, wealth and poverty coexist within the food culture because of the world economy’s polarization. Such a situation threatens the health and life of individuals, the peace of society and the existence of the ecosystem. It means that food has become a commodity to make profits from, a commodity under the domination of food imperialists. In the era of neoliberal globalization, food is not only a basic condition for life, but also has a economical, political and sociocultural meaning. Christians learn and realize the meaning and value of eating-through eating and drinking acts of Jesus Christ, his feasts, the sharing of five breads and two fishes and the holy meal. This is not different from the teaching of Christ, who saved the living and taught how to live. Therefore, showing interest in the injustice of current food culture and the pain of living creatures and formulating alternatives is a major issue for Christian education. In this paper, I want to analyze the economical and the political aspect of food culture and the violence hidden behind the food culture to reveal problems related to the production, distribution and consumption of food. Moreover, I want to reflect about the theological meaning of food to formulate an alternative food culture. Lastly, I would like to suggest some tasks dealing with the creation of such an alternative food culture.

오늘날 먹거리 문화는 먹거리의 양극화로 인해 풍요와 궁핍이 공존하고 있다. 이런 현실은 개인의 생명과 건강, 공동체의 상생, 생태계의 공존을 위협한다. 이것은 먹거리가 이윤을 남기는 식량으로 상품화하면서 식품제국주의의 지배 아래 놓여있음을 의미한다. 신자유주의적 세계화 시대에 먹거리는 생존의 필수 조건일 뿐 아니라 정치경제적이고 사회문화적 의미를 지닌다. 기독교는 예수의 먹고 마시는 행위와 잔치, 오병이어의 나눔, 성만찬 등을 통해서 그리스도인들이 무엇을 어떻게 먹어야 하는지, 그 의미와 가치가 무엇인지를 성찰하고 실천한다. 이것은 생명을 살리시는 그리스도의 가르침을 따르는 것과 다르지 않다. 그런 점에서 우리 시대에 일어나는 먹거리 문화의 불의함과 그로 인한 피조물들의 고통에 관심을 갖고 그에 대한 대안을 모색하는 일은 기독교교육의 중요한 과제가 아닐 수 없다. 이 글에서 필자는 우선 오늘의 세계에서 먹거리의 생산과 유통과 소비를 둘러싼 문제를 드러내기 위하여 먹거리의 정치경제학과 먹거리 문화에 은폐된 폭력의 현실을 분석하고자 한다. 그 다음, 대안적 먹거리 문화를 구상하기 위하여 먹거리에 대한 신학적 이해를 정리하고 대안적 먹거리 문화에 대한 기독교교육적 의미를 성찰하고자 한다.
