The purpose of this study is to clarify the characteristics and status of a curriculum of the Colorado states which affected at the early social studies curriculum in Korea. For this purpose, I examined structure and characteristics of modern curriculum around 1940 in America. The basic viewpoint of modern curriculum in America aimed the various integrated curriculum for a practical person. The curriculum of Colorado states maintained a traditional subject system and aimed integrated social studies of geography, history and civics. Therefore, if sees from the viewpoint of integration, the curriculum of Colorado states was transition period from the subject curriculum to the core curriculum which aims integrated curriculum.

본 연구의 목적은 1940년 전후의 미국 근대 교육과정의 구조와 특징에 대한 고찰을 통해 사회생활과 교수요목에 영향을 끼친 콜로라도주안의 성격과 위상을 밝히는 것이다. 1940년 전후의 미국 근대 교육과정의 기본적인 관점은 실천적 생활인의 육성을 위해 다양한 방식의 통합 교육과정을 지향하였다. 1942년판 콜로라도주안은 분과적 교과체제를 유지한 채 지리, 역사, 공민을 통합한 사회과를 중심으로 필요한 경우 타 교과의 내용을 통합하도록 하고 있었다. 따라서 통합성이라는 관점에서 본다면 전통적인 분과 교육과정에서 완전 통합을 지향하는 중핵 교육과정으로 넘어가는 과도기적 위치에 있었다고 볼 수 있다.
