This paper is to estimate Eusebius’ historiography and understanding of history in An Ecumenical Perspective. To obtain this purpose, this paper takes two methods. The first method researches Eusebius’ historiography in his work, Ecclesiastical History and examines his understanding of history in it. The second method is to study the historiography of An Ecumenical Perspective and estimate Eusebius’ historiography and understanding of history in An Ecumenical Perspective.
Eusebius is the most important historian of the early church and is often referred to as the “Father of Church History” because of the significance of his Ecclesiastical history. This work covers the story of the church from its establishment by Jesus Christ to the time of the Emperor Constantine. In this work, Eusebius identifies Six broad subjects: the successions of the apostles, the most important events and persons in the history of the church, the development of heresy, the fate of the Jews, the persecution and martyrdom of christians, and the history of the text and canon of Scripture in the early church. In this work. Eusebius has two ideals of the understanding of history. First, he thought that Permeating the entire history is the idea of divine Providence and grace. Second, he believed that the advent of Constantine was the culmination of this progression.
Meanwhile, in 1981 the international council of church historians held in Basel, Switzerland discussed about the possibility of the historiography of An Ecumenical Perspective. At the meeting church historians presented the task for An Ecumenical history of the una sancta catholica. It must be characterized by catholicity in time, in space, and of the whole People of God. And also, in order to carry out the task of ecumenical church history, the reports of groups agreed that the diversity of churches, the study of early church history, the dialogue with Secular historians, and the presentation of the history of people are required.
In view of this ecumenical historiography, this paper estimates Eusebius’ historiography and understanding of history. According to this paper, Eusebius’ historiography has the common grounds and differences with this ecumenical historiography. the common grounds is that Eusebius’ Ecclesiastical History has the sources of early church history and the dialogue with Secular historians. the differences is that Eusebius’ Ecclesiastical History has not the diversity of churches and the presentation of the history of people.

한편 1981년 스위스의 바젤에서 개최된 국제교회사협의회는 에큐메니칼 교회사서술방법론에 관하여 토론하였다. 이 모임에서 교회사가들은 하나의 거룩한 보편적인 에큐메니칼 교회사 서술을 위한 과제를 제출하였다. 이 에큐메니칼 교회사 서술은 시간, 공간, 그리고 하나님의 전체백성의 보편성으로 특징지어질수 있다. 그리고 이 에큐메니칼 과제를 수행하기 위하여 그룹 보고서들은 교회들의 다양성, 초대교회사에 대한 연구, 세속역사가들과의 대화가 필요하다는데 동의하였다. 이 논문은 이러한 에큐메니칼 관점에서 유세비우스의 역사서술방법과 역사이해를 평가하였다. 이 논문에 따르면, 유세비우스의 역사서술방법은 에큐메니칼 역사서술방법과 공통점과 차이점을 모두를 지니고 있다. 우선 공통점은 유세비우스의 󰡔교회사󰡕가 에큐메니칼 역사서술이 강조하는 초대교회사의 보고이며, 세속역사가들과의 대화를 시도했다는 점이다. 그러나 이러한 공통점에도 불구하고 유세비우스의 󰡔교회사󰡕는 다양한 교회들의 역사를 담아내지 못하고 있으며, 민중들의 역사를 다루고 있지 않는다는 점에서 에큐메니칼 역사서술방법과 차이점을 지닌다.
