Geum(琴;Korean harp with six strings;a Korean lute) had been called that is true gentleman's[君子] musical instrument, and is known as good friend of scholar since ancient times. Specially, Joseon Dynasty's Confucianists recognized Geum that is companion to accomplish own literary ultimate purpose. By the way, Joseon Dynasty's learning is Neo-Confucianism, and its ultimate purpose is becoming a saint who recovered original human nature. Then, why did Joseon Dynasty's Confucianists become intimate Geum and recognize it that is companion? If examine 論語, expression of "Help Ren(仁) with friend.[以友輔仁]" looks. Ren(仁) is the heart of Confucius philosophy, it is the essence. Even if speak that is "Confucius asserted to accomplish Ren(仁) during all life.", saying too much is not. Therefore, that got from experience Ren(仁) is that indeed became saint. Also that become intimate is "Become intimate the virtue.[友也者, 友其德也.]". Therefore, it means that Joseon Dynasty's Confucianists become intimate with Geum is that become intimate with it's virtue which indwell to Geum. So, Confucianists recorded by literature that praise such Geum's virtue and it's action, and engraved on geoungo, usually call this that is Geummyeong[琴銘;Writing that engraved on Korean harp with six strings.]. The main purpose of this treatise is investigating about Confucianists's moral culture study which is expressed to Geummyeong. Geum is small universe, and have the laws of nature already. By the way, the laws of nature is identical my thing or thing of other things. This is similar Geum. Based on the above logic scholars thought that the origin of human and all things is hsing(性-nature), and based on this he thought that the nature of all things is the nature of human. The nature of Geum is the nature of all things and the nature of human at the same time. Therefore the nature here means Tian-de(天德-virtue of nature) existing in all things equally not the nature that nay specific thing has originally. Therefore human and all things should always agree with T'ian-de. Main text to treat in this treatise is the Geummyeong of Kim-ilson(金馹孫, 1464-1498) and Lee-onjeok(李彦迪, 1491-1553) who were Joseon Dynasty's Confucianist. Geummyeong is important data that can illuminate abstract meaning connected with high spiritual view of the world of Geum concretely, and because connote actual philosophical meaning in educational effect as well as art at future generations, can speak that the meaning and sense also are very large.

조선시대 선비들이 琴을 벗으로 삼았다는 것은 단순한 악기로서 그 소리를 감상하거나, 물리적인 현상에만 주목한 것이 아니라, 琴이 가지고 있는 德을 벗 삼아, 仁을 체득하고, 天人合一을 이루는 동반자로써 인식함을 알 수 있다. 금명의 세계에서, 琴자체는 하나의 작은 물건에 지나지 않지만, 이미 소우주로써 우주만물의 이치를 동일하게 갖추고 있다. 그리고 琴이 담고 있는 내재적 기능 즉, 마음의 사욕을 없애고 또한 우주 만물의 본원으로 내재된 덕을 일치시킴으로써, 德音의 소리를 발현시키고자하는 작자의 내성외왕이라고 하는 이상을 실현하고자 했던 의지를 살펴볼 수 있다. 또한 금명의 세계에서는 대상과 합일하여 덕음을 발현하고자 하며 동시에 내면의 德音을 들음으로써, 보고 듣고 일체화하는 모든 작용이 순환구조를 이루고 있음을 알 수 있다. 군자의 본모습이 곧 琴의 본래적 기능이고, 금과 군자가 상호 일체화된 세계, 덕음을 통하여 그것이 발현되며 또다시 그 德音으로써 자기성찰과 마음을 순화시킬 수 있는 것이다. 학문과 군자에게 있어서도 이러한 실천적 수양은 思辨的인 수양방법이 아닌 구체적 수양으로 자리매김한 것에 큰 의미가 있으며 예술에 있어서도 대상인식-내재된 덕성의 일체화-德音의 세계라는 순환적 심미사유체제를 이루어 하나의 상징성을 구체화 하였다.
