The purpose of this article is to study first the problem consciousness of social demand to the elastic confrontation of college. What do we expect and demand for the college including enterprises? The enterprises ask to the college program reflecting on the competitive power of business to complete at the moment.
Contemporary is, we can say, as knowledge-convergence society. In knowledgeconvergence
society its effective value is for the ability of knowledge adaptation or knowledge creation not for the knowledge itself. Because the creation of new knowledge and the ability of adaptation is to decide the competitive power of the nation and enterprise.
In the knowledge-convergence society the process of producing new knowledge is the course of indicating and practicing the new solution for the present tasks we are facing.
What we are adapting to a new knowledge is to understand the problem situation which we confront and to cultivate the ability of solving the problem.
In this thesis, as we can see, one of the practical alternatives for cultivating the talented men in the college that are equipped the ability of solving the problem will be given a convergence education through a convergence subject development. As a result the convergence education should be to cultivate a consilience ability that will be able to understand holistic things or a state of affair.

본 연구는 대학 교육경쟁력 확보라는 시대인식을 바탕으로 그 방향이 설정되었고, 이를 통해 ‘대학 교육경쟁력 확보’를 위한 대안을 마련하려는데 있다. 이를 위한 실천 가능한 대안으로 융합교과목 개발을 통한 학제간 융합교육에 대해 탐구함으로써 교육경쟁력 확보를 위한 구체적인 대안을 제시하는 것이 본 연구의 목표이다.
21세기 지식기반사회에서 효용가치를 만들어 내는 핵심은 지식 자체에 있다기보다는 지식창출 능력 혹은 지식에의 적응 능력이다. 그래서 새로운 지식의 창출 및 적응 능력이 곧 기업 및 국가 경쟁력을 결정하게 된다. 이러한 점들을 감안한다면, 전통적 의미의 전문적 지식이라기보다는 통합(통섭)적 지식을 의미하는 것으로, 전문지식과 함께 관련된 분야의 지식, 나아가 창의적 문제해결능력까지 확보하고 있어야한다는 것을 의미한다.
그러한 창의적 문제해결능력을 갖춘 인재를 양성할 수 있기 위한 실천가능한 대안 중 하나가 융합교과목 개발을 통한 학제간 융합교육일 것이다. 융합교과목 개발을 통한 융합교육은 학생들로 하여금 사물을 총체적으로 이해할 수 있는 통섭능력(consilience)을 배양한다는 점에서 인간의 삶과 세계에 대한 총체적 이해를 가능하게 해준다. 융합교육은 매우 급속하게 변하는 현대사회에서 전통적 학문영역에 기초한 지식과 사유로는 창의적 사유와 문제해결에 한계가 있기 때문에 통섭적 사유를 통해 사물과 세계를 총체적으로 이해하고 창의적 문제해결능력을 갖춘 인재를 양성하는데 실질적으로 기여할 수 있을 것이다. 나아가 이 글은 통섭적 사유능력 배양을 위한 융합교과목 모델의 유형별 실천 지침을 제공해 줄 것으로 기대된다.
