Why do people gamble deeply? What kind of matters bring them to gambling? These are the related questions to the causes of gambling addiction. The causes can be considered in various ways and it is possible to study according to each of it. Generally, the studies consider genetic factor as important or environmental factor as first cause. Gambling addicts cannot control their desire to gamble. They gamble repeatedly. Gradually and chronologically they fail to control the gamble drive. Comparing with other addictions, gambling addiction has the property of work caused by personal Will. Nevertheless, there is a tendency to treat it as same as the other addictions. This is the reason that this thesis deals with will cause in the factors of gambling addiction in view of counseling . Mainly, genetic biological side and surrounding environmental side which is caused by the problem of life are at work to cause gambling addiction. Because gambling addiction is caused by the composite work of biological character which is genetically internalized and the character which is received stimulation from life environment. But the study on these factors tries to understand gambling addiction without considering of personal Will as important. Even though it is recognized that genetic biological side and environmental side cause gambling addiction, but psychological Will problem of the addict should be regarded as important. It suggests the study of Will Factors should be done.

사람들은 왜 도박에 빠져드는 것일까, 어떤 요건들이 그들로 하여금 도박에 빠져들게 만들고 있는가? 등은 도박중독의 원인에 관계된 질문들이다. 이런 원인들에는 여러 가지를 추정할 수 있고 또 그에 따른 연구도 가능할 것이다. 대개 유전적인 요인을 중요시하거나 환경적인 요인을 일차적인 요인으로 부각시키는 것이다. 도박중독자들은 도박하고 싶은 욕망을 억제하지 못하고 반복적으로 도박적인 행위를 시도하며, 그것이 점진적으로 그리고 만성적으로 도박하고 싶은 충동을 억제하는 데 실패하고 있다. 이는 도박중독은 다른 중독보다 개인의 의지가 가장 많이 작용하는 특성이 있음에도 불구하고 다른 중독과 동일하게 취급하려는 경향이 있다. 이는 본 논문이 도박중독에서 의지적인 요인을 연구하고자 하는 이유이다. 도박중독증은 크게 유전적인 생물학적인 측면과 생활의 문제로 인해 일어나는 주변의 환경적인 측면이 관련되어 작용되고 있다. 이는 도박중독이 유전적으로 내면화된 생물학적인 특성과 다시 생활의 환경에서 자극받은 특성으로 인한 것들이 복합적으로 작용한 때문일 것이다. 그러나 이런 요인들은 모두 개인의 의지적인 요인을 부각시키지 않은 채 도박중독을 이해하려는 입장이라고 할 수 있다. 실제로 도박중독증의 원인에서 유전의 생물학적인 측면과 환경적인 요인이 인정되지만 중독자의 의지적인 문제가 중요시 되어야 한다고 본다. 그들의 의지적인 측면의 이해는 함께 도울 수 있는 바탕이 되기 때문이다.
