The main problem addressed in this study is how to help student's understanding of the world in which he or she lives, leading to positive formation of their identities in continuous cultural change, while accommodating dominant Western influences. This analytical and descriptive study uses discourse analysis, to suggest the introduction of multicultural art education in Korea. The study is divided into three parts: 1) an analysis of culture and cultural change, 2) a review of Western-European and North American multicultural literature, and 3) the presentation of multicultural art education pedagogy to use in Korea. Multicultural art education is defined as the participation in the artistic activity of other cultures for the purpose of understanding them on their own terms. Based on this study, a recommendation is made for the integration of sociological and anthropological perspectives into multicultural art education, in order to facilitate students' acquisition of special knowledge, insights, and understandings of their own culture as well as others' cultures. In sociological and anthropological perspectives, attention is paid to the specific values regarding the art, the particular epoch in which it was produced, and why these values were so esteemed. It can enhance students' cognition by connecting the idea of artworks made from other times and their times, and consequently help students' formation of identities.

이 글에서 언급된 주된 문제는 어떻게 미술교육이 지배적인 서양의 영향에 적응하면 지속적인 문화변화의 상황에서 학생들로 하여금 긍정적인 정체성의 확립을 도모하면서 그들의 현실구축을 도울 수 있는가이다. 이 분석적이고 묘사적인 학습은 한국에 다문화 미술교육의 도입을 제시하기 위해 담론분석을 사용하였다. 이 학습은 세 부분으로 나뉘어진다: 즉, 1) 문화와 문화 변화에 대한 분석, 2) 서부 유럽과 북 아메리카의 다문화 문헌 고찰, 3) 한국에 사용이 가능한 다문화 미술교육의 제시이다. 이 학습에 기초하여 다른 시대에 만들어진 시각 이미지들과 학생 시대에 만들어진 이미지, 그리고 다른 문화권에서 만들어진 이미지와 학생이 사는 시대에서 만들어진 이미지에 담긴 아이디어를 연결할 수 있도록 학생들의 인지력을 계발시킬 수 있는 미술교육이 주창되었다. 결국 이 미술교육은 학생들의 정체성의 형성을 도울 수 있도록 그들로 하여금 그들 자신의 문화와 다양한 다른 문화권에서 만들어진 시각 이미지에 대한 특별한 지식, 통찰력, 그리고 이해의 습득을 용이하게 할 수 있는 다문화 미술교육을 검토하고 있다. 학생들이 시각 이미지를 통해 문화에 대한 이해를 도모하기 위해서 특별히 다문화 미술교육은 사회학과 인류학적 방법의 효율적인 교수법을 제공할 수 있다.
