Disappearance is an incident in which a man is missing and there is no knowing about his living or dying. This kind of incident will bring totally unwilling and unexpected separation of a child or a family member, which itself may cause terribly enormous psychological and emotional impacts. Moreover, long-term disappearance will have a great and wide effect on the society. A child disappearance incident may bring small or large psychological and financial damages on the missing child and his family, and long-term disappearance or disappearance connected with crimes will make the society greatly unstable and uneasy. It is why the police and other related government departments have to make every effort to prevent and avoid such incidents. To do this, it is necessary for the police to set up a team for missing child cases, share more information on the identity of the missing children, and strengthen their supervision over non-certified facilities. Furthermore, many more cases of missing children will be effectively settled when the amber warning system which is operated by the police in conjunction with related government agencies is more positively utilized, the system is operated more scientifically, open investigations are applied to the cases, and the citizens more willingly provide cooperation to the police.

실종이란 종적을 잃어 생사를 알 수 없게 되는 것으로, 아동 및 가족의 의사가 전혀 반영되지 않아 예상치 못했던 갑작스런 헤어짐이 되므로 그 자체로도 엄청난 심리적ㆍ정서적 충격을 불러올 수 있다. 그리고 이것이 장기화되면 될수록 사회에 미치는 영향은 심각하고 광범위 해진다. 아동실종사건이 일어나면 실종아동과 가족들에게 크고 작은 심적ㆍ금전적 피해가 나타날 수 있고, 또한 장기 실종이나 범죄와 관련된 실종의 경우는 사회적파장이나 문제의 심각성이 크게 나타나므로 이를 미연에 방지하기 위해 경찰청을 비롯한 관계기관에서 심혈을 기울여 노력하여야 한다. 이를위해 경찰은 아동실종사건 경찰전단반을 구성하고 경찰의 신상정보공유 확대와 미인가시설 감독강화 등이 필요할 것이다. 또한 현재 경찰에서 유관기관과 협조하여 이루어지고 있는 엠버경보시스템의 적극활용과 시스템의 과학화, 아동실종사건이 발생하였을 때 공개수사의 활용과 이에대한 시민의 협조활용이 잘이루어진다면 좀 더 바람직한 아동실종사건의 해결이 이루어질 것으로 사료된다.
