During the King Gwanghae-gun's reign, Imjin-waeran(Japanese invasion of Chosŏn in 1592) brought on great loss of volumes. Thus, the study on the process of response is worthwhile for the study on compilation of the book. However, because the compilation is closely related to the contemporary situation, the recapitulation of the state of the King Gwanghae-gun's reign is required. The war made the doctrines of Neo-Confucianism slackened, and the famine and infectious disease rage. Moreover, the King Gwanghae-gun's handicap born as the second child of a concubine and the support from Daebook made him begin and continue to purge his political opponents right after his enthronement. The compilation of the state during the King Gwagnghae-gun's reign is as follows. They compiled not only for reconstruction of the lost books and slackened doctrines of Neo-Confucianism, but for the establishment of the legitimacy of Gwanghae-gun and Daebook. Generally, the compilation of the state during the King Gwagnghae-gun's reign were closely related to the state of the days. Especially, We have to pay attention to efforts to restore the damages wrought by war.

光海君代는 壬辰倭亂으로 인한 서적 손실의 여파가 여전하였다. 따라서 국가적으로 그 상황에 어떻게 대처하였는지 광해군대 국가의 圖書 편찬에 대해 연구하는 것은 서지학사에서 충분한 가치가 있다. 그런데 도서의 편찬은 그 시대와 소통하는 것이므로 먼저 광해군대 시대적 상황을 개괄하는 것이 우선이다. 광해군대 사회는 前代의 전란으로 인해 성리학적 질서가 해이해져 있었고, 기근과 전염병이 빈번히 발생하였다. 또한 광해군은 당쟁의 와중에 後宮의 次子라는 한계를 지닌 체 大北의 지지를 바탕으로 왕위에 올랐다. 따라서 즉위 후 반대 세력에 대한 獄事가 끊이지 않았다. 광해군대 국가의 도서 편찬 활동은 다음과 같다. 『宣祖實錄』과 『東國新續三綱行實圖』는 집권세력인 대북의 주도로 편찬이 이루어지면서 당색이 짙게 반영되어 후에 수정과 폐기의 논란에 휩싸인다. 한편 『東國新續三綱行實圖』는 무너진 성리학적 질서를 회복시키고자 편찬되었다. 『儀軌』 편찬은 소실된 典故書籍의 복구 차원에서 활발히 진행되었다. 『東醫寶鑑』의 편찬은 宣祖의 유업을 계승한다는 측면이 강했지만, 『新纂辟瘟方』
, 『辟疫神方』 등의 편찬은 당시 빈발하던 전염병에 대한 대책이었다. 편간은 實錄廳, 撰集廳, 都監, 鞫廳 등 임시 기관과 內醫院 등 상설 기관에 의해 주도되었다. 전체적으로 광해군대 국가의 도서 편찬 과정은 시대의 요구를 반영하였고, 동시에 시대 자체가 녹아들어 있다고 보아야 할 것이다. 특히 전란으로 인한 소실 부분에 대한 復舊를 위한 노력은 주목해야 할 부분이다.
