This dissertation aims to investigate Bogcheon(復泉) Kang hagnyun(姜鶴年)'s life and scientific orientations. He had not only experienced the catastrophic wars i.e. Imjin War(倭亂) of the late 16th and Byongja-Horan(胡亂) of the early 17th but also voiced his own voice in order to cope with reality in the violent government of Kwanghaegun(光海君) and another political turbulence of Injo(仁祖).
I study Bogcheon's life picture and scientific orientations concerning his genealogy and scientific resource relations and illuminate his political consciousness and thoughtful ethos.
Because Seonbi(士), in order words the latent administrator and intelligentsia hears his own inner sound and adheres to the waken spiritual world, he feel not only responsibility for his ego but also the life of society and community. He asserts the erection of a fundamental principle, so to speak, the recovery of ethical value based on the moral legitimacy. He is not realist who follows others by giving up his own positions and so always criticizes the unjustifiable and absurd reality through the theory of principles.
The picture of Bogcheon's life that does not lose the criterion of rightness and try to correct the feeling of difference between the real and the moral ideal is just his scientific tendency. I understand his authenticity for life and his attitude for the legitimacy of rightness as the sternness and mildness(直而溫) and the integral mind(至誠).

이 논문은 16세기 후반의 왜란과 17세기 전반기의 호란이라고 하는 참혹한 전쟁을 경험하고, 또한 광해대의 폭압적 통치와 이를 반정을 통해 뒤엎는 인조대의 또다른 정치적 격변의 상황에서 현실 경영을 위해 자신의 목소리를 드러냈던 복천(復泉) 강학년(姜鶴年: 1585-1647)의 삶과 학문적 지향을 고찰한 것이다. 필자는 본 논문에서 복천의 가계와 학문적 연원 관계를 중심으로 복천의 삶의 광경과 학문적 지향을 고찰하고, 아울러 인조대의 정통성 문제와 군주의 통치방식을 직설적으로 거론한 상소문을 중심으로 복천의 정치의식과 사상적 지향을 조명하였다.
선비라고 하는 전통사회의 잠재적 관료이자 지식인은 ‘자신의 내면의 소리에 귀를 귀울이면서 항상 깨어있는 각성된 정신세계를 견지하기 때문에, 자기 자신뿐만 아니라 사회와 공동체의 삶에 막중한 책임감을 느끼는 존재’이다. 복천은 현실의 부조리함을 타개하기 위해서는 임시방편적인 대책보다는 근본적인 원칙의 정립, 곧 도덕적 정당성에 기초한 인륜적 가치의 회복을 주장한다. 복천은 ‘자기를 굽혀서 남을 따르는 현실주자’가 아니기 때문에 항상 ‘원칙론’에 입각해서 불의하고 부조리한 ‘현실’을 강하게 비판한다. 스스로 올바름의 기준을 잃지 않고, 현실적 사태와 도덕적 이상의 괴리감을 정위치 시키기 위해 끊임없이 노력했던 복천의 삶의 광경은 곧 그의 학문적 지향이기도 하였다. 필자는 이러한 복천의 삶에 대한 진정성과 의리의 정당함을 바라보는 태도를 ‘곧음과 따듯함’[直而溫], 그리고 ‘지성(至誠)스런 마음’으로 파악한다.
