Education is an activity to prepare for future society as well as present society, and throughout history, the important role of teachers is to cultivate students who are suitable and necessary in their society. As society has been rapidly changing, teachers have to see future society with more active and positive views and reflect on how to engage in future education. The view of teaching profession refers to a cognitive frame of viewing and understanding the profession, and teacher's attitude and value on it.
To date, teaching profession has been approached by three types of views such as sacred as calling, laboring as mental-working, and professional based on specialty and self-regulation. However, these views have limitations in implementing future education. Accordingly, teachers are required to make change in their roles as curriculum experts, reformists in teaching skills, and experienced mentors of students. These traits are expected to contribute to establishment of the view of professional service as a new view of teaching profession, which focus the expertise of teaching content and skills, and volunteering service for learners at center.

교육은 현재를 포함한 미래사회를 대비하는 활동이며, 시대를 막론하고 교사의 가장 중요한 역할은 학생을 그 사회에 적합하고 꼭 필요한 인재로 길러내는 것이다. 사회가 급속히 변하고 있는 지금, 교원은 미래사회의 변화를 보다 적극적이고 능동적인 관점에서 수용하고, 어떻게 미래교육에 임해야 할지에 관하여 깊은 성찰을 필요로 한다. 교직관은 교직을 바라보고 이해하는 인식의 틀과 교원의 교직에 대한 태도와 가치관을 의미한다. 그동안 교직관은 일반적으로 성직관, 노동직관, 전문직관의 세 가지 유형에다가 공공 봉사직을 포함하는 수준에서 논의되어 왔으나, 미래교육의 특성과 미래교육이 추구하는 인간상을 구현하는 데 일정한 한계가 있어 보인다. 미래교육은 학습자의 능력과 여건에 맞는 교육서비스를 제공하여 전인적인 발달을 추구하고, 미래사회에 유용하고 적합한 구성원으로서 뿐만 아니라 사회적 발전과 변화를 주도하는 창의적 인재 양성을 목표로 한다. 이러한 미래교육을 주도하기 위하여 교원은 기본적인 자질과 능력에 관한 전문성 외에 헌신과 노력을 기반으로 하는 봉사성을 함께 갖추는 것이 기대된다. 이러한 특성은 교육내용과 교수방법에 대한 전문성과 학습자 중심의 봉사적 실천을 보다 강조하는 발전된 교직관으로서 전문봉사직관의 정립이 가능할 것이다.
