This study is based on the fact that youth center have been important parts of youth activity of local residents. However, youth centers have provided simple and limited opportunities to the specific user group in the past. Now, youth center have to be changed into open and accessible places with variable opportunities and experiences for youth people. In case of local youth center in Seongnam city, the result of the research shows that utilization ratio is very low and space composition is not proper to meet the need. It is necessary to analyze functional composition, utilization conditions, and the preference of the users to find out the reason why the utilization ratio is low. Therefore, this study aims to propose improvement planning user facilities planning of the youth facility with research data.

청소년이 잘 성장하기 위해서는 자신의 소질과 능력에 따라 자유롭게 뻗어나갈 수 있는 환경과 활동의 장이 조성되어야 한다. 하지만 현재 우리 청소년들이 놓여있는 여건은 그렇지 못하기 때문에 많은 문제를 안고 있다. 올바른 청소년 육성을 위해서는 청소년 단체의 활성화와 청소년들의 서로 다른 개성, 취미, 능력, 흥미를 파악하고 길러주기 위한 시설과 공간을 마련해주는 것이 시급한 과제라고 본다. 본 연구에서는 청소년 시설이 가지는 궁극적인 의미가 무엇인지를 알아보고 그 실태·현황을 분석한 것이다. 이 연구를 통해 보다 나은 청소년 수련 활동과 융통성 있는 시설운영을 통하여 효과적인 청소년의 자질을 계발할 수 있도록 하고자 한다.
