This paper analyzes the effects of community child care center through a participant observation and examines current problems and potential improvement. The community child care center has provided supports for adolescents from low-income family based on an association with After School Program and Youth Self-Sufficiency Supporting Center. The learning support program shows positive influence on improving basic scholastic ability among the participants. The emotional support program has contributed to developing mental stability and narrowing cultural gaps. The youths showed most positive results in case they established an attachment through a mentoring program. Full-time instructors play a role as custodian and role model. Voluntary instructors are critical in the program considering the poor budget condition. Currently, the stable allocation of instructors and the professionalism of those instructors are required. Instead of limiting its goal to the passive replacement of households, the community child care center should actively support the adolescents in their growing process so that they can successfully build their career.

본 연구는 지역아동센터의 효과를 참여관찰을 통하여 분석한 것이다. 지역아동센터는 방과후교실, 청소년자활지원관과 지역사회 연계를 통해 저소득층 청소년들이 지역에서 성장할 수 있는 토대를 마련하였다. 학습지도 프로그램은 기초학력 향상에 효과를 보이고 있다. 정서지도 프로그램은 정서안정과 문화격차 해소에 기여를 하고 있다. 생활지도 프로그램은 청소년들이 멘토링 프로그램을 통해 애착이 형성되었을 때 가장 큰 효과를 보였다. 상근교사들은 청소년들에게 보호자와 역할모델이 되고 있다. 자원교사들은 재정의 열악함으로 인해 생활지도에 큰 역할을 하고 있다. 교사수급의 안정성과 교사의 전문성이 요구된다. 지역아동센터의 목표는 소극적인 가정 대체기능을 넘어서 청소년들이 인문학적인 고민을 하면서 진로를 준비할 수 있도록 해야 한다.
