This study is to clarify the practical meanings of ‘Shadow Education’ as the Korean Moms' roles, regarding their children's study. Through the series of researches on this query, it became possible to accommodate the general concept of "the Korean Moms' Education of their children" in a newly conceived term as ‘Shadow Education’. To convert this daily routine into an academic concept, we established a new term of ‘Shadow Education’ based on the concept of "Shadow Labour" devised by Ivan Illich. What are the structure and contents of "Shadow Education" which stands for the Korean moms' education of their children? To answer this query, a documentary research was performed. With a view to describe the ‘Shadow Education’, an analytical structure was erected on the double axes of 'Identity' and 'Orientation' which facilitated the detailed study of the contents. The identity of the Shadow Education was outlined as the two major components in view of the relationship between the Korean Moms and their children. That is mom's "Persona" and in there as mom's "Idol", or to try to establish a "distinction" in comparisons of themselves with other Korean Moms. The orientation of "Shadow Education" that describes the inclination of "Korean Moms" in their courses of practicing the desirable education for children. It could be viewed as "the Shadow on a Scaffold" , as "the Shadow of Caring", as "the Shadow in Agreement".

한국엄마의 자녀교육은 비구조적․비체계적 교육과정으로서 제도교육의 학문적 틀 안에서 논의될 수 있는 구체적인 형태로서 확인하기는 쉽지 않다. 이 연구는 일상적으로 존재하는 한국엄마의 자녀교육을 학문적으로 확인할 수 있는 언어로 구체화하려는 것으로 한국엄마의 자녀교육이 '그림자교육'이라는 새로운 용어 안에서 어떻게 이론적으로 접근될 수 있는 것인지를 고찰하고자 하였다. 이를 통해 한국엄마의 자녀교육이 제도교육과 관계 속에서 어떻게 존재하고 있는지 정체성과 지향성이라는 논의의 두 축을 중심으로 확인하고자 하였다. 한국엄마의 자녀교육이 그림자교육으로 설명될 수 있는지 다양한 학문적 논의와 이론을 통해 분석개념을 포착하고 이를 적용하는 방법으로 논의를 전개하였다. 그 결과 한국엄마에게 나타나는 그림자교육의 정체성은 한국엄마와 청소년자녀와의 관계 속에서 어떻게 존재하는지에 관한 논의로서 '자녀는 엄마의 우상', '자녀는 엄마의 페르조나'라는 두 가지 특성으로 집약할 수 있었다. 한국엄마에게 나타나는 그림자교육의 지향성은 한국엄마와 청소년자녀와의 관계 속에서 어떤 모습으로 실천되고 있는지에 관한 논의로서 '자녀를 위한 발판의 그림자', '자녀를 위한 돌봄의 그림자', '자녀를 위한 합의의 그림자'와 같은 세 가지 특성으로 살펴볼 수 있었다.
