Career choice is one of the most important decisions to make as life choice.
But most people’s future educational paths and careers are decided by looking outward to the influences of society and economic conditions, and not inward to their own personalities and preferences. And they don’t get satisfaction on their jobs and adapt in their career society.
This paper provides a critical discussion of the ongoing concern of career theory and illuminates the career development and career decision factors on Heer’s career choice theory. Futhermore, it proposes helpful advices and practical tools for Christians as they manage their career in today’s changing workplace on christian counseling.
The result is that the career guidance and counseling should be in systematic process of human development from childhood. And christian counseling has to help christian clients choose appropriate career in Christ, and help the career be a helpful tool to use one’s own talent that God gave and to achieve one’s selfrealization.

인생에서 많은 시간을 소비하게 되는 직업의 선택은 개인의 삶을 선택하는 것과 같이 매우 중요한 문제이다. 그러나 우리사회는 급속한 자본주의의 발전과 학벌위주의 진로지도로 인해 많은 사람들이 자신의 능력과 개성에 맞는 직업을 선택하기 보다는 소득이 높은 직업이나 사회에서 높게 평가받는 직업을 선택하는 경향이 있다. 이와 함께 자신의 일에서 만족을 얻지 못하고 직업사회에 적응하지 못하는 사
람들이 증가하고 있다. 이에 본 논문에서는 미래사회 변화에 큰 영향을 받게 되는 직업세계에 대해서 이해하고, Heer의 직업선택이론을 참고로 직업선택의 발달과 정과 결정요인을 살펴보았다. 더 나아가 기독교인들에게 필요한 직업관을 기독교 상담과 연관해서 고찰했다. 그 결과 직업에 대한 지도와 상담은 아동기부터 시작해서 체계적인 발달과정을 거쳐야 한다. 또한 기독교상담은 내담자들로 하여금 그
리스도 복음에 합당한 올바른 직업을 선택해서 개인에게 주어진 달란트를 충분히 사용, 자아실현을 돕기 위한 도구가 되어야 하며, 앞으로 많은 연구를 통해 합리적인 기독교 상담방안과 기법들도 제시되어야 할 것이다.
