The criticism of preaching in the Korean church began with the negative valuation about the Korean preaching and the conviction that it is possible to review the preaching. The characteristics of the established criticism in the Korean church are a criticism as a eulogy and a dedication, a criticism by various scholars as a study of the preacher and his theology, and a well-balanced criticism both merith and demerith. But the publicization of the criticism of the preaching in the Korean church was indebted not to a homilist but to a theologian whose major is the systematic theology. His criterions of the criticism are the idea of the preacher, textinterpretation, usage of the language, and the rhetorical decoration etc.. It is questionable that he regards the alternative matters such as the preacher’s view of the preaching, the theological position, the view of bible and politic of the critic etc. as the criterion of the criticism of the preaching.
But such criticism contains so many problems: The basic attitude of the critic is too negative. The critic puts special stress on the contents of the preaching, so that he loss to evaluate the whole preaching. He uses the alternative matters as the absolute criterion and makes his ideal position as the criterion. Especially the impoliteness of the critic makes the good will of criticism useless. So it is very essential for the construction of the desirable culture of the criticism to understand the concept of the criticism correctly.

한국교회에 불기 시작한 설교비평은 설교자라는 인간적 차원에 대해 손댈 수 있다는 확신과, 현실 설교에 대한 부정적 판단에서 기인한다. 지금까지 이어 내려온 설교비평 작업 그 성격상 크게 칭송과 헌사로서의 비평, 설교자와 설교에 대한 다양한 측면에서의 조명과 연구, 장점과 단점의 균형 잡힌 비평 등으로 나눌 수 있다. 하지만 설교비평을 공론화시킨 것은 설교학자가 아닌 조직신학자였다. 그의 설교비평은 설교자의 핵심적인 사상, 설교자의 성경해석, 설교자의 언어사용, 수사형식을 기준으로 하고 있다. 문제는 설교자의 설교이해, 설교적 취향, 비평자의 신학적 경향, 비평자의 성경관, 정치관, 등이 설교비평의 기준으로 등장한다는 것이다. 하지만 이러한 설교비평은 비평자의 기본적인 시각과 태도가 부정적 비판일변도의 지나치리만큼 설교의 내용에만 치중함으로 설교를 전체적으로 조명하지 않는 것, 선택의 문제를 기준으로 삼는 것, 비평자의 입장이 설교비평의 절대 기준이 되는 것, 비평자의 독선적 무례함이라는 문제를 안고 있다. 따라서 올바른 설교비평의 문화를 만들기 위해서는 설교비평에 임하는 올바른 자세가 필요하다. 즉 설교비평의 과제는 설교의 이해와 설교의 기쁨을 촉진하는 데 있고, 설교를 듣는 일에 도움을 주려 한다는 것, 설교를 판단한다는 것은 설교에 담겨져 있는 여러 가능성을 묻는 것이고 해석한다는 것이기에, 따라서 설교해석으로서의 설교비평은 설교의 기원과 형태 목적을 조사하는 설교분석을 배제하지는 않지만 이 개념보다는 훨씬 큰 것이라는 점 등이 전제되어야 한다.
