English immersion has emerged in Korea only recently as an innovative approach to learning and
teaching English. With only a few English immersion programs within bilingual education, most of the English immersion programs in Korea are in association of 'English Camp,' 'English Village,' or 'English Zone'. This recent innovation is expected to resolve all the problems related to English language learning and teaching in Korea. However, setting up an immersion program in a typical EFL context like Korea has created another set of issues and challenges such as facilities, curriculum, and native speakers. The purpose of this paper is to examine the promise of those programs, warn of the fallacy, and suggest some realistic and effective ways to develop English immersion programs which can better cater to the needs and wants of Korean learners of English.
