Geometrical forms, regardless of West or East, have been found in various shapes by era and region as they have undergone changes in their universal and symbolic meanings. Today, they are utilized as a major visual language leading modern plastic art. Lissitzky, constructivist, intended to deliver both meanings and contents aimed at delivery in effective and objective way through change, order, balance and dynamic construction by using geometrical forms that are basic forms of visuallanguage. Consequently, this study obtained the following results concerning the objective communi- cability of basic geometrical forms by experimenting "abstract illustration utilizing geometrical forms" on students in College of Design. Unlike figurative forms, geometrical forms can be translated into various meanings according to individuals who seethe forms, but at the same time they are objective forms which can strike universal chord with all. They can attach different meanings and unfold the contents of fairy tale on the basis of external and internal properties possessed by each figure. For the purpose of illustration which must deliver both meanings and contents, the abstract of geometrical forms eventually become ambiguous. However, it is highly recommended to find out ways to remove all unnecessary elements, explore changeand make them easily recognizable within a framework of the universality of geometrical forms

기하학적 형태는 동서양을 막론하고 그것의 보편적, 상징적 의미로 부터 오랜 시간동안 변천되면서 각 시대나 지역에 따라 다양하게 나타났으며. 오늘날 현대 조형예술을 이끄는 주요 시각언어로서 활용되고 있다. 구성주의자 리시츠키는 시각언어의 기본형인 기하학적인 형태를 활용하여 변화와 질서, 균형, 동적인 구성을 통해 전달하고자 하는 의미와 내용을 효과적이고 객관적으로 전달하고자 하였다. 이에 본 연구는 디자인계열 학생들을 대상으로 “기하학적 도형을 이용한 일러스트레이션의 실험을 통해서 다음과 같은 결과를 얻었다. 기하학적인 도형은 구상 형태와는 달리 보는 사람에 따라 다양한 의미로 해석될 수 있지만 한편으로는 보편적으로 모두가 공감할 수 있는 객관적인 형태이기도 하다. 이것은 각각의 도형이 지니는 외형적, 내면적 특성에 따라 각기 다른 의미를 부여하며 동화의 내용을 전개할 수 있다. 의미와 내용을 전달해야 하는 일러스트레이션의 목적을 위해 기하학적인 형태의 추상성은 모호할 수밖에 없다. 그러나 명확한 의미전달을 위해 불필요한 요소를 제거하고, 쉽게 인식할 수 있도록, 기하하적인 형태의 보편성의 틀 안에 변화를 꾀하는 방법을 모색하는 것이 바람직하겠다.
