North Korean defectors in the Northeast Asia is the very sensitive agenda and they sometimes causes the diplomatic conflict between countries in the region. The main reason is assumed to be the food crisis and deteriorations of economic situation since mid 1990s in North Korea.
In view of human rights, the situation of North Korean defectors wandering in China is reported seriously bad. However, there is no clear solution to solve the problem in the international society. It is very difficult to distinguish the status of North Korea defectors whether they can be regarded as refugees or economic migrants. Nonetheless, it is essential that every person needs to be respected as a human being and it doesn't matter that anybody belongs to any group.
The issue on North Korean defectors in the Northeast Asia is still a huge task which the international society tries to solve continuously as far as the situation of North Korean economy is getting better in the future. China, the country which the defectors are coming into, is responsible to protect the miserable refugees, and North Korea, the country which the defectors are getting out, is responsible to reduce the ongoing escape from their lovely motherland. On the same time, the international society need to induce the consensus on the best solution to prevent North Korea people from escaping. If the food crisis and the poverty are main factors to cause the ongoing escape, economic assistance or technical cooperation can be the solutions. On the basis of consideration of all the situation and recognition on North Korean defectors, South Korea also tries to actively assist and protect North Korean people in terms of preparation of unification of the Korean peninsula.
