This research investigates the deviance of North Korean juveniles that had started to increase from the 1990s in link with North Korean society’s specificity and schooling circumstances. While there are many theories associated with deviance, this research focuses on the effect of North Korea’ s political-social structure and the organization of the society upon juveniles’ problematic behavior. After an overall introduction of the topic of deviance in part 1, part 2 demonstrates and analyzes the relationship between North Korean juveniles’ deviance and the specificity of North Korean society. It examines North Korea’s class structure, its cluster of estranged classes, systematic social control, the increase of unsociable behaviors, wide shortages of goods and an increase in the number of criminal acts. Part 3 then analyzes the relationship between school-life and deviance. It investigates the rise of deviance in North Korea and its special characteristics in association with a highly systematized school-life (including payment of tuition and excessive collection of commodities) and the growth in “hooligan” student gangs.

본 연구는 1990년대 들어 가시화되고 광범위한 형태를 띠고 있는 북한청소년의 일탈행동을 북한 사회체제의 특성 및 학교 환경과의 연관성 속에서 그 특징을 분석하였다. 일탈행동에 관한 다양한 이론이 존재하지만 본 연구에서는 문제행동의 원인을 개인적인 측면보다는 북한 체제 및 사회구조적 측면에 초점을 두어 연구를 수행하였다. 이러한 연구목적을 수행하기 위해 2장에서는 북한 사회체제의 특성과 일탈행동의 관계를 분석하였다. 북한의 계급구조와 체제외적 소외계층의 양산, 조직적 사회통제와 비사회주의적 행동의 증가, 북한사회의 물자 결핍과 광범위한 범죄행동의 유발을 살펴보았다. 3장에서는 북한의 학교생활과 일탈행동의 관계를 분석하였다. 조직적 학교생활과 일탈행동 유형, 학교의 과중한 세부담과 광범위한 일탈행동, '패' 형성과 집단폭력의 양상 등을 살펴보았다.
