A Study on the Lifelong Education to Acquire a Cultural Literacy for Women Marital Immigration

Women marital immigration who emigrated to Korea are living without a knowledge about Korean culture. They are at a disadvantage because they don't have a cultural literacy. Central and local governments and private organizations are trying to provide a lifelong education for women marital immigration. Most programs are consist of Korean language education for beginners, introduction of traditional culture, and some classes for hobby. However these programs are not sufficient to help them in acquiring cultural literacy. The purpose of this study is to analyze cultural education programs for women marital immigration recently, which comprise cultural art education program, a support enterprise for alienated classes through lifelong education, cultural education in Korean language education, then to build a means for acquisition a cultural literacy through lifelong education. The problems of these programs are as follows. First, these are based on a policy for assimilation with patriarchal society. Second, these programs has no consideration for cultural literacy gap between Korean and women marital immigration. They are treated as a object for assimilation, have a difficulty in living as a people who has a social subjecthood. To live as a active member of the Korean society, lifelong education has to be based on multiculturalism. In addition items about cultural literacy suited to Korean society have to study and use for cultural education.
