There were three aims for this study. First, this study aimed to analyze the contexts and the rapid changes in the world. Second, British global citizenship education was studied in order to find the reasons why global citizenship has significant meanings. Third, this study tried to find how to implement the global citizenship education especially in Korean society. As a research method, documents analysis was adapted with rational and critical view. In conclusion, global citizenship education was suggested as an alternative tool in order to overcome the malfunctions of Neoliberalism and globalization which caused a lot of side effects for the human being. This study argues how to implement global citizenship education for young people in Korea and how to encourage the government, stakeholders, and schools to provide young people with global citizenship education.

본 연구의 목적은 첫째, 지구시민교육이 필요하게 된 사회의 변화와 배경을 고찰하고 둘째, 이런 사회변화를 적극적으로 대비하고 주도하기 위한 지구시민교육의 영국사례를 분석하여 마지막으로 한국사회에서 지구시민교육의 지향점을 논의하는 것이었다. 관련문헌 분석을 바탕으로 한 이론연구로서 문헌 자료의 맥락을 이해하고 분석하였다. 연구의 결론으로는 세계화와 신자유주의의 병폐와 역기능을 극복하기 위한 적극적인 대안으로서의 지구시민교육의 필요성과 한국에서의 지구시민교육의 지향점을 논의하였다.
