Public art is a contradictory term that simultaneously keep the conecpet of art as private activity and that of public as public activity. For this reason, there has been some limitation in clarifying the concept of public art in art history. This paper will take Christo and Jeanne-Claude's as a significant art work that helps reveal and redefine the concept of public art. Christo and Jeanne-Claude were able to find a close connection between art and public through the basic concepts in their works such as enormousness, ephemeral and specifically created aesthetic experiences in public art. The enormousness creates the sublime and restore the place with human communication The second concept in their works is the ephemeral. It means that the artwork is owned by nobody but people can share their collective memories through the work. illustrates a contemporary meaning of aura. Through such an aura makes audience share "common sense" among themselves. The work also shows that audiences can feel something in common and strong solidarity in the same time. This is the experience of solidarity aura. Audiences organize unpredictable and undefined aesthetic community through this aura. Christo and Jeanne-Claude’s main goal in their art is organize aesthetic community, which is also the purpose of public art.

공공미술은 미술이라는 사적인 활동과 공공의 개념이 만나 모순성을 태생적으로 가지고 있어 아직 명확한 개념을 만들어 내는 것에 한계가 있다. 따라서 본격적으로 공공미술에 대한 연구를 시작하기 전에 대지미술 작가 크리스토와 쟌느－클로드의 최근 작품 에서 나타나는 특성들과 심미적 경험방법들을 연구하여 작가들이 어떤 방법으로 미학과 공공성의 균형점을 찾는지를 연구할 것이다. 는 거대성에서 생긴 숭고미와 인간 소통이 이루어지는 원래적 장소로의 환원을 통해, 그리고 일시성에 의해 생긴 집단적 기억의 소유를 통해, 작품을 경험한 사람들에게 특별한 공통감을 가지게 한다. 경험자가 공통감을 느낄 수 있는 이유는 단지 크고 일시적이라서가 아닌 작품이 가지고 있는 새롭고 현대적 아우라가 존재하기 때문이다. 이런 아우라는 벤야민이 전통 예술을 벗어난 영화에서 찾은 가능성에서 그 단서를 볼 수 있다. 또한 보수적 예술을 벗어나 새로운 예술형식을 통해 집단에게 공통감을 느끼게 하며 연대감을 생성한다. 이것이 연대적 아우라 경험이고, 경험한 사람들은 정의 내릴 수 없는 심미적 공동체를 형성한다. 공동체 형성이 크리스토와 쟌느－클로드가 추구하려는 미학이었고 한국 공공미술에서 생각해봐야 할 지점이다.
