This paper analyses the current situation, problems and policy direction of rural tourism business to solve these dilemmas in Korea. Rural tourism plans on improving the welfare of both urban and rural areas in Korea. Thus, rural tourism has to be reared under a system of basic targets such as the growth of farm income, the preservation of rural environment, the consideration of using resources scattered in the rural area, and the supply of resorts and studying places (feeling nature) for urban people. Regarding basic strategies for fostering rural tourism in Korea, it is necessary to support institutions to improve tourism farm parks, the location selection of tourism farm parks, the improvement of operational institutions and market approach, and the improvement of administration systems.

이 연구의 목적은 한국의 농촌관광을 활성화하기 위한 정책방향과 기본전략 방향을 모색하는데 있다. 한국에서의 농촌관광은 도시와 농촌지역의 상호 복지증진에 기여하고 있다. 즉, 농촌관광은 농촌지역에 산재되어 있는 다양한 자원의 활용과 농촌 환경의 보전, 농가소득의 증대 등을 가져올 수 있도록 기본목표를 체계적으로 설정해야 하며, 동시에 도시민들에게는 농촌지역의 체험과 학습, 휴양을 공급할 수 있어야 할 것이다. 한국의 농촌관광 활성화를 위한 기본전략은 농촌관광 지원제도의 개선, 농촌관광 적정입지의 선택, 농촌관광 운영제도의 개선, 시장적 접근과 홍보전략적 접근, 그리고 행정시스템의 개선 등이 필요할 것이다.
