The purpose of this paper is to examine the causal relationship between trade and economic growth in Korea using quarterly data over the period from 1998 to 2007. This paper employs the dynamic vector using Engle and Granger cointegration procedure, Johansen's multiple cointegration procedure, and impulse response function. The findings of the Granger test suggest that economic growth Granger-causes export and import. This paper also applies impulse-response functions to the model. The empirical results show that the export and import respond positively to the shocks in economic growth and then decay quickly.

본 연구는 수출, 수입, 경제성장 사이의 인과관계를 분석하고자 한다. 먼저 변수의 안정성 검정을 위한 ADF 단위근 검정과 모형의 안정성 검정을 위한 Engle and Granger의 공적분 검정과 Johansen의 다변량 공적분 검정을 실시한다. 그 결과 변수와 모형이 안정적임이 확인되었다. 다음으로 인과관계 분석을 실시한 결과 경제성장이 수출에 영향을 미치지 않는다는 가설, 경제성장이 수입에 영향을 미치지 않는다는 가설, 그리고 수출이 수입에 영향을 미치지 않는다는 가설이 시차 1에서 기각되었다. 그리고 경제성장이 수출의 변동에 미치는 영향보다 경제성장이 수입의 변동에 미치는 영향이 더 크다는 것을 밝힐 수 있었다. 또한 충격반응 결과에서 실질소득충격이 수출에 미치는 영향이 수입에 미치는 영향보다 상대적으로 큰 것으로 나타났다.
