To investigate the effects of environment of Korean private universities on their administrative performance, I sorted out a wide range of existing questions relevant to this field and reorganized them into a new set of survey items while carrying out factor analyses and reliability tests. As a result, students' supply and demand and competition among universities were adopted as outer environment factors; faculty teaching, financial status, leadership, and educational facilities were adopted as inner environment ones. As performance factors, student recruiting, managing existing students, and finding jobs were adopted. The research subject population consisted of faculty members and employees from 112 private universities around the country. A total of 1,120 questionnaire copies were passed out and 501 copies were used for a planned analysis out of 536 copies collected. According to the analysis, I came up with the following: First, out of those outer environment factors, only the factor of student's supply and demand had an influence on administrative performance. Second, in contrast, all of those inner environment factors had an effect on it.

사립대학교의 환경이 경영성과에 미치는 영향에 관한 연구를 위해 대학의 환경과 경영성과에 대한 설문을 구성하고 사전 조사를 통하여 요인분석과 신뢰도 조사를 통해 요인을 추출하였다. 그 결과 대학의 환경을 묻는 질문 중 외부환경 요인으로 학생수급과 대학 간 경쟁, 내부환경 요인으로 교수․강의, 대학재정과 리더십, 교육시설이 채택되었다. 대학의 성과를 묻는 질문에는 입학관리, 재학생관리, 취업관리가 채택되었다. 연구를 위한 모집단은 전국에 있는 112개 사립대학의 교직원과 교수를 대상으로 하였다. 배포된 설문은 1,120매였고 회수된 설문 중 분석에 활용된 설문은 501매였다. 분석결과 첫째, 대학의 외부환경 특성인 학생수급만이 경영성과에 영향을 미쳤다. 둘째, 대학의 내부 환경 특성은 교수․강의, 대학재정, 리더십, 교육시설 모두가 경영성과에 영향을 미침을 알 수 있었다.
