As the effort is being accelerated to activate the local tourism and economy through the local festival, thousands of festivals around the nation wide are being held. Local festivals and events have been growing as the major parts of destination marketing, the participation of local residents takes an important role in the success of these local festivals. The higher the positive perception of local festivals is, the more the participation in the local festival is. On the other hand, the negative perception such as the deterioration of living condition and the destruction of authentic history, culture and environment leads to less participate in the local festival. Therefore, to analyze the effect perception of local residents on the local festival is different from simple investigation. It can be the basic data for measuring the failure or success of the events.

지역축제를 통한 지역 관광과 지역경제 활성화를 위한 노력이 가속화되면서 전국적으로 수천 개의 지역축제가 개최되고 있다. 지역축제 및 이벤트는 관광목적지 마케팅의 주요 부분으로 성장해나가고 있으며 이러한 지역축제가 성공하기 위해서는 지역주민들의 참여가 매우 중요한 역할을 한다. 선행연구에서는 지역축제 방문객에 대한 연구가 중심을 이루었으면 지역주민들에 대한 연구가 매우 부족하였다. 지역주민의 지역축제에 대한 긍정적인 영향인식이 높아질수록 지역주민의 참여를 확대될 것이며, 생활환경 악화, 역사ㆍ문화 및 자연환경 파괴와 같은 부정적인 면들이 강하게 인식된다면 지역주민의 참여는 저조하게 될 것이다. 그럼으로 지역축제에 대한 지역주민의 영향인식을 분석하는 것은 단순한 인식조사가 아니라 지역축제의 성공가능성을 가늠할 수 있는 기초 자료가 될 수 있을 것이다.
