This paper is Study on the Change of Investment in JeJu and Economic Activity of Jejuian Residents in Japan. In view of the result of this study so far achieved gives an outline of ; During the past 100 years, many Jejuian immigrants to Japan for the income and opportunity of economic activity. And Jejuian Residents in Japan have made community in Japan region. Also economic outputs of Jejuian Residents in Japan return to the Jeju. And that is Social Contribution of Jejuian Residents in Japan for the people of Jeju and community in Jeju. Secondly the category of business of Jejuian residents in Japan have a majority in the section of restaurant business and bag manufacturing industry and in the section of shoes manufacturing industry, restaurant business and construction. However, these categories are slightly different from the categories of Korean(or Chosun) resident in Japan but it shows that is the basis of their economic activities, Thirdly, in the view of classified by a region, Bukjejugun has a major possession and it regards that most of Jejuian from Bukjejugun are running their business in Japan . And classified by form of their company, most of them are running their business as a company limited and it shows Jejuian runs more their business as company limited than other form of company. In addition, classified by types of industry, manufacturing industry like as shoes, plastic and needlework has a major possession. In this study, the result to lead that looking forward both Jeju community and Jejuian resident community in Japan as well as Japan society will promote expansive exchange among them. This is applied to comprehend specific characters of Jejuian merchants and industrial in Japan and grope appropriate way of their activities by understanding the actual condition of them.

본 연구는 재일제주인에 관한 연구로 일본사회에서 제주인들의 경제생활에 따른 제주지역에의 투자변화에 관한 실태분석을 목적으로 한다. 재일제주인에 대해 학문적인 관심을 가지는 것은 재일제주인의 이주과정, 삶의 형태, 역사적 배경 및 사회․경제적 특성들이 한국의 다른 지역출신과 구별되는 특수성을 가지고 있어 제주지역은 물론 우리나라 전체에서 지역연구의 의미 있는 사례가 될 수 있기 때문이다. 또한 제주도 현대사에 커다랗게 자리 메김 하고 있는 재일제주인들의 일본에서의 경제생활에 따른 고향 제주지역에의 투자의 변화를 살펴봄으로 해서 재일제주인 삶의 의미를 재조명할 수 있다. 또한 제주사회에서 제주인에 대한 올바른 인식을 정립하며, 나아가 재일 제주인과 제주사회간의 합리적 물적 교류 방안을 모색할 수 있다고 보아진다. 한편 재일 제주인의 제주에의 투자는 다음과 같은 특징을 갖는다. 1) 이주 1세대와 2, 3, 4 세대들 간의 차이, 즉 이주 1세대는 애향심과 친지에 대한 애정이 전제된 투자를 행하는 한편 2세대로 갈수록 합리적이고 효율적인 투자결정을 강조한다. 2) 제주지역 출신지역간 차이, 즉 일본으로 이주하고 나서도 출신 마을의 공동체 기능의 강화된 지역 출신 제주인 일수록 고향 제주에의 투자가 활성화되는 경우가 많다. 3) 투자 대상 지역 간의 차이, 일반적으로 재일 제주인들은 일본내부나 동남아 지역에 투자할 경우에는 철저한 손익계산에 의해 의사결정이 이루어지는데 반해, 제주지역 투자에 투자할 경우 정서적 측면을 강조한다. 따라서 기증과 투자가 혼재되어 나타나거나 일부에서는 재산권 구분이 미비하여 분쟁이 발생하기도 한다. 4) 이주시기에 따른 차이, 즉 해방 전 주로 경제적 성취를 목적으로 이주한 경우와 해방이후 ‘제주 4․3’ 과 같은 정치적 이유에 의한 이주나 경제적 도피 즉 ‘저팬드림’ 을 목적으로 이주한 경우가 각각 다르게 나타난다. 한편 재일제주인에 관한 연구는 학교교육에서 많이 다루어지고 있는 주제는 아니지만 교육적 의의가 있다. 재일제주인 3․4․5세들은 물론 제주지역 중등학생에게 이 연구의 결과물을 재구성하여 경제교육에 활용함으로 해서 정체성 확립은 물론 고향에 대한 올바른 인식의 계기를 제공할 수 있을 것이다.
