The welfare system of the Federal Republic of Germany is based on the permanent cooperation of public-sector and non-statutory agencies. Through the work they perform, on behalf of the whole community, the non-statutory welfare services, which are recognized as a vital part of the welfare state. One of the central voluntary welfare organizations is “Diakonisches Werk”of the Protestant Church of Germany. The members of“Diakonisches Werk”represent around 26,000 independent social institutions of a varying size and legal form, which employ over 400,000 full-time and part-time staff. There are also more than 5,000 charitable self-help groups and groups of non-professional carers. The protestant church educates deacons, in cooperation with the theological faculty of the Universities in Germany and the faculty of social welfare at the universities of applied sciences since, a very long time. The German education of deacons have got a very long history (tradition). Diaconia Science is not adequately represented in the theological and social work faculties in Korea. This article describes church social welfare education in the Federal Republic of Germany. In this essay the following will be discussed: The tasks of the deacon, the history of the education, the institution of the study and the curriculum.

본 연구는 오랜 역사를 가진 교회의 디아코니아의 디아코니아의 역할과 과제, 독일의 디아코니아 교육기관, 개신교 사회복지대학에서의 디아코니아 교과과정과 특징을 고찰하고 디아코니아 교육이 한국사회에 주는 함의를 살펴보려 한다. 디아코니아가 교회의 본연의 과제이기 때문에 신학과 사회복지학의 학문적인 대화가 필요하며 앞으로 제도적인 정착을 위하여 자격증 도입문제 등 디아코니아의 위상정립에 한 논의가 활성화 되어야 할 것이다.
