The purpose of this phenomenological study was to understand the job experiences of the medical aid client managers Method: The data were collected through an in-depth interview from twelve medical aid client managers. It was analyzed using the phenomenological method proposed by Colaizzi (1978). Their feedback was categorized into five items such as 'settlement in the unknown place,' 'exhaustion from work,' 'difficulties in dealing with people,' 'achievement of professionalism and accomplishment,' and 'vision on the new aspect.' Conclusion: Medical aid client managers played diverse roles and they had a role conflict due to unstable position amid feeling proud with new vision on their roles. The results of this study suggested that systematic development of job training programs and description on the duty are needed. Moreover, appropriate legal basis for the duty of medical aid client managers is to be established. Finally, based on this research, more acknowledgement from the Korean nursing society is needed for the new emerging professional job.

본 연구는 현상학적 연구로서 의료급여관리사들의 실무 경험을 이해하는 목적으로 한다. 연구방법 : 본 연구의 주된 자료는 12명의 의료급여관리사와의 심층면담을 통해 수집되었으며, Colaizzi(1978)의 현상학적 방법을 이용하여 분석하였다. 연구결과 : 연구의 결과에 나타난 의료급여관리사의 실무 경험의 구조는 ‘낯선 곳에서 자리잡기’ ‘업무특성으로 인한 소진감’ ‘다루기 어려운 대상자’ ‘전문성 획득과 업무 성취감’ ‘새로운영 역에 대한 비젼’ 등 5개의 범주로 파악되었다. 결론 의료급여관리사들은 다양한 역할들을 수행하고 있다. 그러면서 자신들의 역할에 대한 새로운 비젼과 자부심을 느끼는 동시에 불안정한 신분으로 인해 역할 정체성에 갈등을 겪고 있다. 본 연구결과는 의료급여관리사에 대한 체계적인 직무교육프로그램의 개발은 물론, 직무기술이 필요함을 보여준다. 더 나아가 의료급여관리 업무에 대한 법적 근거가 확립되어야 한다. 끝으로 본 연구를 토대로 새로이 대두되는 전문직으로서의 의료급여관리사에 대해 한국 간호계의 관심이 필요하다.
