This paper's main objective is to analyze the impacts of currency composition change on international financial markets. We reviewed the process of recent reserve accumulation and the currency composition change. We also empirically analyzed the impacts of the change of currency composition on the exchange rates and the bond yields by using VECM(Vector Error Correction Model). The significant results of this empirical analysis are as follows. First. we found the currency composition change strongly impacted on exchange rates. In particular, the relative increase of euro's composition was the main factor of the strong euro exchange rate movement. Second, we also found that the rising of relative currency composition ratio led to the down of the bond yields. It reflects that the rising demand on the specific currency dominated bonds by the rising of specific currency ratio increased the bond price, which means the down of bond yields. The results of the empirical analysis show that the Bank of Korea should increase the ratio of the euro in the reserve portfolio in order to reduce the risks of exchange rate volatility.

본 연구는 최근까지의 외환보유고의 변화와 통화구성비 변화과정을 검토하고 외환보유고의 통화구성비 변화가 환율과 금리 등 국제금융시장의 주요가격변수에 어떠한 영향을 미쳤는지를 벡터오차수정모형(VECM)을 통해 실증분석하였다. 주요 실증분석 결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다. 첫째, 통화구성비 변화는 환율에 강력한 영향을 미치는 것으로 분석되었다. 유로화의 상대적 통화구성비 증가는 강력하게 유로화의 강세를 유발하는 요인으로 작용한다고 분석되었다. 유로화의 경우 환율변동의 70%정도가 통화구성비 변화에 의해 설명되었다. 이는 유로화 통화구성비의 증가는 유로화의 수요증가를 더욱 촉진시키는 요인으로 작용하게 되어 유로화 강세의 요인이 되는 것으로 이해될 수 있다. 엔화나 파운드화 통화구성비 증가 역시 엔화나 파운드화 강세의 요인이 되는 것으로 분석되었다. 둘째, 통화구성비 상승은 채권수익률을 하락시키는 요인으로 작용하는 것으로 나타났다. 이는 통화구성비 증가는 해당 통화 표시 채권의 수요증가를 의미하고 이는 채권가격을 상승시켜 수익률을 하락시키는 것으로 추론된다. 다만 엔화의 경우는 상대적으로 영향력이 미흡한 것으로 분석되었다.
