Lee Sang is often regarded as a Surrealist author, and we know Surrealism was heavily influenced by Freud. I have determined how the dynamics of libido impulse [as promulgated in Freud’s Three Essays on Sexuality (1905)] is assumed by the narrator. Moreover, the relation between the libido and the desire for material gain is explored. Freud’s concept of the libido can be expressed in the hypothesis that the existence of human and animal sexual appetite is actually similar in nature to that of certain animal instincts, for instance hunger and digestion. Originating from the body, the drive doesn’t lose its sexual nature, but changes only in form, in relation to the unconscious, such that its suppression results in the appearance of stubborn behaviour and mental activity. Complexities arising from the three dynamic layers are given. Among the three layers, the id propels the drives outward, the egokeeps the id in check, and the superego internalizes cultural taboo forms. Automatism is an expression of Surrealist creative technique. According to the Surrealists, dream and actuality coexist, and reality and incessant activity are even resident in the unconscious. Furthermore the explanation for the notion that “automatic technique is an expression of desire” Shin Hyun-Suk, On Surrealism, Dong-a Publishing Co., 1992, p.89.is that the language of the unconscious is intrinsically an expression of desire. The dynamics of the libido’s urges are expressed through the narrator’s imagination to attain clarity concerning the forgetting of discontent and suffering, that is to say, liberation. In other words, like the assertion that “the imagination is our greatest freedom and singular lasting legacy,” the narrator utilizes libidinal dynamics to reveal that even in a place as small as a tangerine box liberation can in fact be savoured.

이상을 떠올릴 때면 흔히 초현실주의 작가라고 칭한다. 초현실주의는 프로이트의 영향을 많이 받았다. 이 글은 프로이트의 성욕에 관한 세 편의 에세이 속에 포함된 리비도 충동의 역동성이 이상의 소설 <지주회시>에서 화자에게 어떻게 내재하여 나타나는지를 알아보았다. 또한, 리비도와 돈과의 관계를 고찰하였다. 리비도란 프로이트에 의하면 “인간과 동물이 성적 욕구를 한 존재라는 사실은 생물학에서 배고픔, 즉 섭취 본능과 유사한 <성적본능>”이라는 가설로 표현된다. 충동은 순간적으로 어떤 행동을 하고 싶은 욕구를 느끼게 하는 마음속의 자극으로 무의식과 관계가 있다. 역동성이란 세 가지 층위들이 갈등을 일으키는 것을 말한다. 세 층위란 이드와 자아와 초자아를 가리키며 이드는 욕구를 표출하여 밖으로 얻고자 하고, 자아는 이드를 억제하고 초자아는 금기형태를 내면화한 것이다. 자동기술법은 초현실주의 창작기법으로 무의식의 표출이다. 초현실주의자들에서 꿈과 현실의 공존이며 무의식 속에서도 현실과 이어지는 끊임없는 활동을 하고 있다. 또 “자동 기술은 욕망의 말”로 나타내는 이유는 무의식의 단어들은 내재하는 욕망의 표출이기도 하기 때문이다. 욕망은 충동의 대상이 되며 대상은 실현되지 않은 꿈, 미래의 윤곽을 예감하는 구술적인 영감이 될 수도 있다. 리비도 충동의 역동성은 <지주회시>의 화자는 상상력을 동원하여 현실에서의 불만과 괴로움을 잊는 해방자로서의 역할을 담당하였다. 즉 “상상력은 가장 위대한 자유이고 우리에게 남아있는 유일한 은총이다”라는 초현실주의 주장처럼 <지주회시>의 화자는 리비도의 충동을 상상함으로써 귤 궤짝처럼 작은 방에서도 해방감을 맛볼 수 있었던 것이다.
