The purpose of this article is to inquire into a contemporary study onthe Zwingli’s economic ethics. Recently, the world-wide economic cri-sis and stagnation have been continued from the money market to thereal economics. According to the neoliberalism lots of serious problemshave come out in Korea as well as the U.S. This economic crisis resultsin the increasing of unemployment, the gap between the rich and thepoor, the confusion of values and the polarization of the society. Thusit is very urgent for us to have the alternatives based on the justice.Facing the constructive contradiction of the society in Zürich and theproblems of medieval Roman Catholic Church in the sixteenth centuries,Zwingli performed the Reformation of church on various fields of Zürichthrough the religious practices. Zwingli did not reform the church only,but he also participated in the city council to renovate the society. Thecity council had an important role in the Reformation in Zürich. In thesuggestion of the economic ethics, Zwingli unceasingly relativized thejustice of human beings toward the absolute justice of God. In addition,he stressed on the economic ethics of the welfare and the service forlife. For this reason, Zwingli’s economic ethics has shown that severalmeanings as follows. First, it has come up with the resistance of theabsolutization of this unrighteous economic system in these days. Second,his economic ethics has presented the good example of the economicreformation in the church and whole society. Third, it has expressed thefoundation of an echo smart economics and a biblical respect for life.

최근 전 세계적으로 금융과 실물경제까지 경제위기와 장기침체가 지속되고 있다. 미국뿐만 아니라 한국사회도 이미 신자유주의 체제를 표방하면서 사회전반에 걸친 양극화 심화와 실업증가와 생계형 범죄 등의 심각한 문제들이 드러나고 있다. 이러한 경제위기로 빚어지는 각종 범죄와 가치판단의 혼란에 대해서 올바르고 공의로운 대안이 절실히 요청되고 있는 실정이다. Zwingli는 16세기 격변기 당시 취리히 사회의 구조적 모순과 중세 로마가톨릭교회의 문제점들을 직면하면서 신앙적 실천을 통해 취리히 사회 전반에 걸친 종교개혁을 펼쳤다. 즉 Zwingli는 교회개혁뿐만 아니라 시의회를 통해 복지정책을 비롯한 사회개혁을 병행했다. 그는 경제윤리를 제시함에 있어서 하나님의 절대적인 의를 향한 인간의 의를 끊임없이 상대화시켰다. 또한 Zwingli는 생명을 위한 복지와 섬김의 경제윤리를 강조했다. 결국 이러한 Zwingli의 경제윤리는 오늘날의 불의한 경제체제의 절대화를 거부하게 하며, 교회와 사회전반의 경제개혁의 본이 되며, 성서적 생명존중과 친환경적 경제의 근거를 제시해 준다.
