Curcuma longa is a rhizomatous herbaceous perennial plant of the ginger family, Zingiberaceae which is naïve to tropical South Asia. It needs moderate temperature between 20°C and 30°C, and a considerable amount of annual rainfall to thrive. Curcumin is the main component responsible for its biological activity, but this plant also contains other component such as curcuminoids and polypeptides with biological actions. The extracts of curcuma longa have many biological acivities such as antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and antiproliferative properties. Antioxidant activities of hot-water extracts from Curcuma longa were investigated in vitro. Various methods, for the radical-scavenging activities of the hot-water extracts were examined by using α,α-diphenyl-β-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radicals and 2,2'-azino-bis(3-ethylbenzthiazoline- 6-sulfonic acid) (ABTS) assay. After cell viability was measured to decide the proper sample concentration, no cytotoxicity was shown in Human Dermal Fibroblast cell line using MTT assay and 2', 7'-Dichlorodihydrofluorescein diacetate(DCFDA) assay.
