The objective of the present study was to develop an invention education program usable for the practical arts subject in elementary school. The invention education program developed in this study included invention education materials applicable to the practical arts subject and teachers’ guidebook, and was composed of a large unit and three small units for six sessions. The contents of the developed program were revised through four specialists’ review, and were improved through field application to 30 six graders. The results of this study are as follows. First, according to the general objective of invention education, we set the specific goals of invention education in elementary practical arts as ‘to understand invention in daily life, to acquire basic invention techniques, to conceive simple interventions, and to have an active attitude toward invention.’ Second, the small units of contents selected for invention education were the understanding of invention, the conception of inventions, and the understanding of intellectual property rights. The unit for understanding invention taught invention in daily life and the understanding of invention, the unit for conceiving inventions taught various invention techniques and idea sketch, and the unit for understanding intellectual property rights taught the meaning and importance of intellectual property rights, and the contents were designed to be taught through six sessions. Third, the teaching materials and teachers’ guidebook suggested guidelines for practice, invention worksheets, and teaching-learning plans so that teachers can solve problems in their practice instruction, and lastly, various reading materials were suggested so that students may have a positive attitude toward invention.

이 연구는 초등학교 실과 교과에서 활용할 수 있는 발명교육 프로그램을 개발하는데 목적을 두고 수행되었다. 이를 위해 문헌연구를 통하여 실과교과에서의 발명교육의 목표와 내용체계를 선정하고, 수도권 지역 소재 초등학교 교사를 대상으로 목표와 내용체계의 적절성을 검증받은 후 초등 실과교과에서 활용 가능한 발명교육 프로그램을 개발하였으며, 전문가 평가와 현장적용을 통해 완성하였다. 이 연구에서 개발된 발명교육 프로그램은 실과교과에 적용할 수 있는 발명교육 교재와 교사용 지도서로 이루어져 있으며, 1개의 대단원과 3개의 소단원으로 6차시분량의 지도내용으로 구성하였다. 개발된 프로그램은 4인의 전문가평가를 통해 내용을 수정하고, 초등학교 6학년 30명을 대상으로 현장적용을 통해 수정․보완을 거쳤으며, 그 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 발명교육의 총괄목표에 따라 초등학교 실과에서의 구체적 목표를 ‘일상생활에서 발명의 중요성을 인식하고, 기초적인 발명기법을 습득하여, 간단한 발명품을 구상함으로써 발명에 대한 적극적인 태도를 갖는다.’로 설정하였다. 둘째, 발명교육의 내용은 발명의 이해, 발명품의 발상, 지식재산권의 이해라는 소단원을 선정하였다. 발명의 이해에서는 생활 속 발명, 발명의 중요성을, 발명품의 발상에서는 여러 가지 발명기법과 아이디어 스케치를, 마지막으로 지식재산권의 이해 영역에서는 지식재산권의 의미와 중요성을 지도내용으로 총 6차시로 구성하였다. 셋째, 교재 및 교사용 지도서는 실습지도와 발명 활동지, 교수-학습지도안을 제시하여 교사들이 겪는 실습지도의 어려운 점을 해결하고자 하였고, 마지막으로 다양한 읽기 자료를 제시해 학생들의 발명에 대한 긍정적인 태도를 가질 수 있도록 하였다.
