Development is given to analyzing shaping characteristics of specially processed natural preserved flowers through a well-known collage technique and applying preserved flowers to flower design medium. Floral design is time dependent especially when cut flowers are used. To overcome this limitation specially processed natural flowers of various colors are used as presentation medium and a collage technique is used as a theoretical background for effective presentation of preserved flowers. Based on the collage technique that emphasizes shaping meanings through combining heterogeneous elements, my work also applied fabric, dried materials, feather, beads and acrylic lines in addition to preserved flowers with various quality and colors. Texture, colors and movements are the main points for analyzing shaping characteristics and the possibility is tested whether that deign could be time-independent at least for a certain period of time. It is proved that quality feeling and color match effect is significant when collage design is applied and interesting movement and coordinations are expressed through repetitive arrangements. After more than a year the work is preserved successfully. It is therefore possible that a collage work with preserved flowers can open a horizon to flower artists in terms of the way of presentation and new shaping experiences.

본 연구는 특수 가공 생화 프리저브드 플라워(preserved flower)를 주 매체로 사용하여 미술 기법의 하나인 꼴라쥬(collage) 기법으로 표현하고 그 조형적 특성을 분석함으로써 프리저브드 플라워를 꽃예술 디자인의 한 매체로써 활용하는 방안에 대한 내용을 연구의 목적으로 한다. 생명력이 한시적(限時的)인 절화를 주 매체로 작업하는 꽃예술은 작업 후 시각적 자료로 남기기 어려운 한계가 있다. 이에, 본 연구자는 순간예술의 한계를 극복하고 영구적으로 작품자료를 남길 수 있는 꽃예술 작품을 연구하기 위하여, 다양한 색상의 특수 가공 생화인 프리저브드 플라워를 표현매체로 목적표출하였으며, 줄기가 없는 프리저브드 플라워를 효과적으로 표현하기 위하여 미술 기법의 하나인 꼴라쥬 기법을 이론적 배경으로 하여 표현하였다. 서로 이질적인 요소들을 모아 결합시키고 이 결합에 조형적인 의미를 부여하는데 궁극적인 목적을 두고 있는 꼴라쥬 표현 기법의 특성상 본 연구자의 작품에도 서로 다른 질감과 색상을 갖고 있는 프리저브드 플라워 외에 패브릭(fabric), 건조 소재, 깃털, 비즈, 아크릴 라인등을 한 작품 안에서 서로 결합시켜 표현하였다. 작품의 분석 기준은 질감, 색채, 운동 등을 관점으로 조형적 특성을 분석하였으며, 작품 제작 후 일정기간 경과기간을 두어 영구적으로 꽃예술 작품의 자료로 남길 수 있는지에 대한 가능성에 대하여 분석하였다. 그 결과, 서로 이질적인 요소들의 결합으로 이루어진 꼴라쥬 디자인에서 강한 질감 대비와 색채 대비의 효과를 입증할 수 있었고, 반복 배치의 결과로 흥미로운 운동감과 통일성을 표현할 수 있었다. 또한, 제작 후 약 1년여 기간이 경과한 후에도 작품의 원형 상태가 그대로 보존되고 있어서, 프리저브드 플라워를 이용한 꼴라쥬 작업이 많은 꽃 예술 작가들에게 표현매체 선택의 폭을 넓혀줌과 동시에 새로운 조형적 경험과 가능성을 제시할 수 있음을 실증했다.
