Festivals have various cultural elements, which can be used in cultural industries, particularly in these cultural times. The cultural industry's power can be regarded as the country's power in 21st century, the industry emerges as the most profitable industry and the future industry. In these times, the dance art can be a potent contributor as a source of cultural assets, which can attract indefinite consumers. The present concept of the public performance as a one-time event must be changed to realize the potentiality. This aims to present interrelationship of the festival stage and the dance art by the more efficient value conversion of the latter.Festivals give a variety of effects on our society. Firstly, they have political effects to cause the political and administrative development in the districts. Secondly, they have economical effects to increase the income and the employment of the local people, and to develop the tourist industry of the district. Thirdly, they have social effects to strengthen local community sense among the people during the participation of the local festivals. Fourthly, they have cultural effects to give a lot of opportunities for experiencing various cultural activities. Lastly, when the festivals have cultural and artistic colors, they have educational effects to give the opportunity to appreciate the artistic works and to raise the level of appreciation.Therefore, the present local festivals need to be restructured on the basis of our original culture, and 'the course to make originality' can be said to be a creative activity. In addition to it, the festivals require many other activities such as planning and execution, so the course of the festivals can be said to be a kind of a composite art.The festivals can give the opportunity to enjoy our dance art's superiority to the modern people who have strong desire for various cultures, and to raise the level of cultural activities of the audience. Also, the festivals, as cultural products, play familiar neighbor infrastructure roles in the public performance.

한국 축제 안에서의 진행되는 모든 문화행사는 국가 경쟁력과 직결된다고 볼 수 있다. 문화산업이 21세기 최고의 고부가가치 산업, 곧 미래형 산업이기 때문이다. 그만큼 다양한 문화콘텐츠 사업의 중요성은 시간이 지날수록 증대해진다. 공연예술로서의 무용예술 역시 문화사업의 일환으로서, 창조적 방향에서 다양한 방안을 모색해야 한다. 그간 일회성으로 끝나버리는 지금의 공연 관념에서 벗어나, 이제는 무한정, 불특정 관객 앞으로 나갈 수 있는 공연기획을 생각해 볼 필요가 있다. 본 연구는 이러한 맥락에서 축제무대 속에서 무용공연이 자립할 수 있는 상관관계를 고찰하는데 그 의미와 목적을 두고 있다. 축제는 우리 사회 전반에 거쳐 많은 긍정적 효과를 제공해 주고 있다. 살펴보면, 첫째 지역의 정치․행정적 발전을 촉구할 수 있는 정치적인 효과, 둘째 지역 주민의 소득 증대와 고용 증대 및 관광산업의 발전을 통한 지역 경제 활성화를 꾀할 수 있는 경제적 효과, 셋째 지역주민들이 지역축제 준비과정에 참여함으로써 서로 간에 유대를 강화하고 지역적 공감대를 형성할 수 있는 사회적 효과, 넷째 대중들에게 다양한 문화 활동 경험 기회가 제공된다는 문화적 효과, 마지막으로 문화예술과 관련된 축제를 통해서 문화, 예술 감상의 기회를 관객들에게 제공하게 함으로써 문화에 대한 대중의 감상 수준을 높일 수 있다는 교육적 효과이다. 현재의 지역축제는 우리의 문화를 토대로 새롭게 재구성해 볼 필요가 있다. 그것은 프로그램을 ‘만들어 나가는 과정’이라는 창조 작업의 일환이다. 온갖 기획, 집행을 총체적으로 집약시키는 축제를 통해서, 축제는 다듬어진 종합예술로 승화될 것이다. 오늘날 다양한 문화적 욕구를 필요로 하는 현대인에게 축제는 중요한 문화행사이다. 축제를 통한 무용문화사업은 우리 무용문화의 우수성을 대중들에게 소개할 수 있는 중요한 행사가 될 것이다. 관람객에게는 보다 질 좋은 문화생활을 누리게 하는 일이 될 것이며, 사업적인 면에서 경제적 효과와 문화를 홍보하는 중요한 기회가 될 것이다. 이는 무용예술의 대표적 공연 상품의 가치제고로부터 가능하다. 때문에 일반인들게 친근한 프로그램을 제공한다는, 보다 대중에게 다가가려는 노력이 요구된다. 그로 인하여 축제는 관객에게는 정서 함양과 문화적 소양을 배양시키는 일이 될 것이며, 무용계에서는 대중과 소통할 수 있는 인프라가 완성될 것이다.
