In 2008, we had two Korea-US summit meetings, respectively in Camp David and Chongwadae. During the press conferences after each meeting, one freelance and two in-house interpreters took up the interpreting mission. In-house interpreters can either be self-made or professionally trained, while freelancers usually belong to the latter. In the second summit meeting in Seoul, the third interpreter, an in-house, happened to work for the press event without working for the preceding summit. This paper compares the performances of three interpreters and analyzes causes of different qualities of interpreting. It concludes that the Chongwadae in-house was better than the other two and recommends that one interpreter should work for the meeting and the press event together, instead of separating the missions between two interpreters.
