This study explored local newspapers’ reporting patterns in terms of disclosure journalism and public opinion polls journalism during the 18th general election campaign period in the country. According to the analysis, disclosure journalism and public opinion polls journalism consisted of major part of election campaign news. But public opinion polls news mostly did not follow the basic principles of polls reporting. The sources, significance levels and sampling errors of the polls were not mentioned in the news. Also, polls news were mostly related with horse race journalism which primarily dealt with the popularity rate and rank of political parties or candidates. Local newspapers as well as other types of newspapers must be careful not to conduct undesirable journalism activities primarily dealing with election campaign.

지난 제 18대 국회의원 총선거 캠페인에 대한 지역 언론의 보도 행태를 폭로저널리즘과 여론조사 보도 차원에서 고찰했다. 분석결과에 따르면 선거보도에서 폭로저널리즘에 해당되는 보도가 큰 비중을 차지하고 있었다. 여론조사 기사도 큰 비중을 차지하고 있었다. 하지만 여론조사 보도의 경우 기본적 원칙이 제대로 준수되지 않고 있었다. 여론조사의 출처 및 신뢰도, 오차범위 등에 대한 정보를 제공하지 않는 기사가 많았다. 또한 여론조사 보도는 대부분 정당이나 후보의 지지율과 순위에 치중하는 경마저널리즘식 보도가 대부분이었다. 지역 언론은 물론 나머지 언론도 이같은 바람직스럽지 못한 보도행태를 지양해야겠다.
