In order to examine the manners in which media engage in social construction of various allegations regarding presidential candidates during election period, a frame analysis was conducted for TV news reports covering the allegations during 2007 presidential election in Korea. 252 news items were selected from 3 major news outlets, KBS, MBC, and SBS TV for analysis. The results show that all three TV stations predominantly displayed the news frame that contributes to maintaining the allegations, rather than resolving them by providing fresh facts generated from investigative reports and/or experts' testimony. Evenly distributed sources between the alleged and those who raise allegations, emphasizing overtone of the news anchors, and heavy dependence on straight news format in scarce of in-depth analysis are a few of the factors contributing to the news frame ill-designed for resolving issues and clarifying unfounded allegations.

제 17대 대통령 선거에서 쟁점으로 부각되었던 후보 관련 의혹들이 미디어를 통해 어떠한 사회적 현실로 구성되었는지 알아보기 위해 2007년 6월부터 12월까지 지상파 방송 3사의 텔레비전 뉴스 252건을 대상으로 의혹 보도 프레임 분석을 실시했다. 분석 기제로는 취재원의 활용, 앵커 멘트의 수사적 구조, 이야기 구성 등을 활용했고, 의혹 제기 측과 의혹 당사자의 비중, 공방에의 초점 여부 등에 따라 의혹확산, 의혹유지, 의혹축소 프레임으로 나누어 분석했다. 분석결과 방송 3사 공통적으로 의혹 유지 프레임이 가장 큰 비율을 차지했고, 앵커 멘트의 경우 의혹 확산 프레임이 두드러진 것으로 나타났다. 방송 3사는 한 기사당 평균 2.5명 이상의 취재원을 활용했으며, 의혹 제기자와 당사자 측 취재원이 균형을 이룬 반면, 중립적이고 초당적인 전문가 취재원의 활용에는 소극적이었다. MBC가 이명박 후보에 관한 의혹을 총 105건 보도함으로써 가장 적극적인 보도태도를 보였고, 보도 유형에 있어서는 방송 3사 모두 스트레이트 보도가 80% 이상을 차지함으로써 후보 의혹 보도가 상황 중계 성격을 띠고 있음을 나타냈다.
