This article is for investigating the basic concept of leadership and its brief exercising process. The fact that most of the modern organizations and communities are requiring the structure of leadership, shows us that leadership is a necessary instrument to comprehend the organizational world and to enhance the effectiveness of accomplishing the organizational goals. The Bible must supply the cases of leadership structure and imply us the functions of leadership in many ways. Therefore, the approach to the Christian leadership should be made by two different dimensions; first, we should make use of social science which has been increasingly contributing to the perceptive and behavioral development for leadership. Second, we must consider the biblical implications on leadership, based on Christian worldview. This article intends to help the fundamental understanding of the several major leadership variables as well as the social-scientific concept of leadership. That is, leadership, authority, legimization(legitimacy), influence, perception of leadership, situation, and their interelations are simply investigated: the authority as the foundation of leadership, the legitimization as the process of accepting its authority by the followers, the influence as the practical execution of leadership, the function of followers which is getting more significant, and the situation as the major external variable. Moreover, their interelational network is emphasized. Particularly, The dynamic relation between leader and follower in these days is considered, by avoiding the narrow perspective of leadership personal trait approach, which means try to understand the leadership structure as the organic situation. Additionally, the brief Christian comments are made on those leadership variables: the situatinally-senstive and contextualized leadership, based on Christian perspective, is emphasized, and summarized into the concept of transformational leadership. Conclusively, this article is not for a specific analytical research, but for an introductory reflection for pre-understanding the basics of leadership and for the foundation for the further professional studies of leadership.

이 글은 리더십의 기초 개념과 실행 과정을 개괄적으로 살펴보고자 하는 것이다. 현대의 대부분의 조직과 공동체는 리더십 구조를 필연적으로 수반하고 있는데 이는 리더십은 현대 공동체를 이해하고 그 목적의 성취에 있어서 효율성을 높이는 중요한 도구라는 것을 나타내고 있는 것이다. 특히 교회를 비롯한 기독교적 공동체들에 있어서도 리더십의 중요성을 아무리 강조해도 지나치지 않다. 성경은 리더십 구조를 보여주고 리더십의 기능에 대해서 여러 방편으로 암시를 우리에게 주고 있다. 기독교적 리더십을 이해함은 두 가지 차원에서 이루어져야 한다. 우선 사회과학적 접근으로 그동안 이루어져 온 많은 심층적 연구들을 활용하는 차원이고 또한 기독교적 고유의 성경적 접근이 동시에 필요하다. 본고에서는 매우 기초적인 사회과학적 리더십의 개념과 이를 지원하고 연관되는 여러 리더십 변수들을 이해하고자 함을 목적으로 하였다. 즉 주요 리더십의 변수들로서, 리더십(Leadership), 권위(Authority), 권위의 합리화(Legitimization), 영향력(Influence), 팔로워의 인식(Perception of Followers), 그리고 상황(Situation) 등의 요소들을 살펴보고 이들 간의 연관 관계들을 알아보는 것이다. 리더십의 기반으로서의 권위에 대한 개념과 그 종류, 그리고 그 권위가 공동체에 인정되어지는 과정으로서의 권위의 합리화 과정, 또한 실제적인 리더십의 실행이라고 보여지는 영향력, 갈수록 관심을 받고 있는 팔로워의 역할, 그리고 상황의 변수 등을 살펴보도록 한다. 이 여러 요소들에 대한 기초적인 이해와 함께 이 변수들의 관계적인 측면을 중요시하였다. 특히 팔로워의 중요성이 현대적으로 더 높아 지고 있는 중에 리더와 팔로워 간의 역동적인 영향력 관계에 관심을 두었으며 또한 리더 개인의 특성이라는 좁은 시각으로 리더십을 이해하던 것에 탈피하여 환경, 즉 상황에 대한 요소를 유기적으로 이해하고자 하였다. 그리고 이상의 요소들에 대한 기독교적 시각을 간략히 제시해 보았다. 상황에 민감하고 효율적인 리더십의 중요성을 이해함과 아울러 상황을 주도하는 변혁적 리더십에 대한 간략한 제안도 시도하였다. 본고는 특정한 부분에 대한 깊은 통찰이라기보다는 리더십과 관련되어 선이해가 필요한 부분에 대한 서론적 고찰이며 이를 토대로 더 심도 있는 연구가 계속되어야 할 것이다.
