The purpose of this study was to find out the effects of rhythmic ensemble to improve social skills of the children with low income family. The subjects of this study were 24 children with low income family of social welfare center. After measuring the level of sociality, they were randomly assigned into the two groups, the experimental group (n=12) and the control group (n=12). The experimental group received eight music therapy sessions composed of rhythmic ensemble for eight weeks from September 10th 2008 to October 29th 2008. To evaluate the changes in sociality, the sociality scale were administered both groups before and after the treatment. The Mann-Whitney U test was conducted to measure sociality between the two groups. Also, Wilcoxon signed-rank test was conducted to measure sociality pre to the post test within the experimental group. The result showed that in the level of sociality, there was significant difference on between the two groups. Moreover, pre to post test within the experimental group there were significant differences in education, diligence, sociality, law abiding behavior.

이 연구는 리듬악기합주 활동이 저소득층 아동의 사회성 향상에 미치는 영향을 알아보고자 실시되었다. 연구 대상은 인천광역시 소재 K 복지관 방과 후 교실에 소속된 11~13세 저소득층 아동 24명이었다. 리듬악기합주 활동에 참여한 12명을 실험집단에, 참여하지 않은 12명을 통제집단에 무선배치 하였으며, 그 중 21명의 음악치료 사전․사후 조사 결과를 통계처리 하였다. 실험은 2008년 9월 10일부터 10월 29일까지 8주간 주 1회씩 총 8회기로 진행되었다. 독립변인은 문헌고찰을 바탕으로 구성된 다양한 리듬악기합주 활동이었다. 연구자는 실험집단과 통제집단에게 사회성 검사 설문지를 음악치료 중재 이전과 8회기의 음악치료 중재 이후에 실시하였다. 리듬악기합주 활동 참여여부에 따른 실험집단과 통제집단의 사회성 점수의 차이는 Mann-Whitney U test를 통해 살펴보았으며, 실험집단 내의 사전․사후 점수간의 차이는 Wilcoxon 부호-서열검증 test를 통해 살펴보았다. 연구의 결과, 리듬악기합주 활동에 참여한 실험집단이 통제집단에 비해 사회성 점수에 유의미한 향상을 나타냈다. 또한 실험집단 내의 사전․사후 점수가 지도성, 근면성, 사교성, 준법성에 있어서도 유의한 차이를 나타냈다.
