The Ideology of the five natural elements of the Positive and Negative is a philosophical theory conceptualized all phenomena in nature, which is the core of the Orientalism. It has also played an important role in the ideological flow of our consciousness. The purpose of this study is to generalize the mental asset of the five natural elements of the Positive and Negative to be a useful in every design area by visualization of symbolic art and design in the form of art and design. Therefore this study focuses to utilize the five natural elements of the Positive and Negative that is closely related to our consciousness and thought by introducing to design for symbolic art and design. I analyze the meaning of symbol on the image of the symbol according to the five natural elements of the Positive and Negative. And I develop the image of the symbol with the diagrammatic elements for the creation of improved symbol model. With this study, I summarized art and design concept for the symbolic art and design, as follows. First, the concept of symbolic art and design based on the five natural elements of the Positive and Negative could be set the application principle of design. Second, I could be found that the creation of five basic diagrams based on the five natural elements of the Positive and Negative and the visualization of the concept of the symbolic art and design are possible. Third, in the art and design based on the five natural elements of the Positive and Negative, I could analyze the symbolic art and design to classify the art and design concept form to good meaning and bad one setting the conceptual perspective of symbiosis and antipathy. The five natural elements of the Positive and Negative has performed the role of wisdom of life, mental indicator as well as compass in the Orientalism for thousands of years. 음양오행은 우주 삼라만상의 현상을 철학적으로 개념화한 이론으로 동양사상의 핵심이며 지금까지 우리의식의 이념적 흐름에 중요한 역할을 해왔다. 본 연구의 목적은 음양오행이 가지는 정신적 자산을 심볼을 위한 조형 형태로 시각화하여 디자인의 전 영역에서 활용될 수 있도록 개념화하는 것이다. 디자인 분야에서는 이 분야에 대한 연구가 미약하였으므로 본 연구는 우리의 의식과 사고에 밀접한 관계가 있는 음양오행사상을 심볼조형을 위한 디자인에 도입하여 활용하는데 초점을 두었다. 심볼의 의미를 음양오행의 이치에 따라 심볼의 이미지를 분석하고, 심볼의 발전적 모델의 창조를 위하여 심볼의 이미지를 도형적인 구성 요소에 따라 연구하였다. 연구 결과, 심볼조형을 위한 조형개념을 다음과 같이 정립할 수 있다. 첫째, 음양오행에 입각한 심볼 조형 개념을 디자인의 적용원리로 설정할 수 있었다. 둘째, 음양오행에 의한 5가지 기본 도형의 창조와 심볼 조형 개념을 시각화하는 것이 가능하다는 것을 발견할 수 있었다. 셋째, 음양오행에 입각한 조형디자인에서 상생상극의 개념을 설정하여 심볼을 좋은 의미와 피해야 할 의미의 조형개념으로 분석할 수 있었다. 음양오행사상은 수천 년 동안 동양문화에서 생활의 지혜이자 정신적 지표였으며 나침반 역할을 해왔었다. 이러한 관점에서 음양오행에 입각한 기업의 아이덴티티를 위한 심볼 조형으로 창조하여 적용시킬 수 있는 기초적 자료로서 의의가 있다.
