The corrosion of reinforcing bar induced by chloride ingress is the main deterioration cause of coastal reinforced concrete structures. Pozzolanic materials are main subjects for increasing such resistance of chloride migration, and recently more attention is paid to metakaolin as a new pozzolanic material. Metakaolin is a cementitious material for producing high-strength concrete. The purpose of this study is to investigate chloride migration of ternary concrete containing metakaolin by chloride migration coefficient. In order to achieve the study objective, test of chloride migration coefficient, compressive strength, XRD and SEM, etc. have been conducted by selecting factors such as W/B, replacement content of pozzolanic materials, curing period, etc. As a result, it has been confirmed that ternary concrete containing metakaolin shows a lower chloride migration coefficient than plain and binary concrete. And as the replacement ratio of metakaolin becomes increasing, resistance of chloride migration enhances, and a high level of synergy effect has been confirmed as the case of mixture of metakaolin and blast-furnace slag. These test results show dominant effects of metakaolin in ternary concrete, and thus, it can be stated that ternary concrete containing metakaolin is very effective for resistance of chloride migration.
