The Structural Optimum Design of T-stub Connection Considering Reliability Analysis

The optimum design of T-stub connection is presented in this research. T-stub can show semi-rigid or rigid behavior, making it possible to adjust the ultimate load and deformation ability. The design variables are assumed to the size and thickness of plate and diameter and number of bolts, while the objective function is the cost function of connection. Probabilistic analysis is rapidly developing into a desirable tool to improve design processes. Incorporating probabilistic with optimization of structures is a step towards improving many current deterministic design systems. This paper deals with applications of two optimization techniques to solve reliability based optimization problems of structures. The constraints are formulated based on the LRFD criteria of AISC specifications. The analytical processes of structural optimization are performed by SQP(i. e. Sequential Quadratic Programming) method which is so superior to solve the nonlinear problem. The reliability based optimization problem is formulated as minimization of structural volume subject to the constraints on the values of componential reliability indices determined by AFOSM approach.
