This paper aims to reveal some implications of Steiner's theory of translation, focusing on Après Babel-une poétique du dire et de la traduction. For this purpose, we first attempt to explain his conceptions of language in general, as his idea of translation is fundamentally based on that of language. Through a long description of Steiner about the nature of language as “count factual propositions”, he argues that comprehension is, in its all dimensions, translation. Secondly, we try to understand Steiner's approch to the four keyword of translation, on the basis of “initiative trust”, “aggression” or “invasion”, “incorporation” and “enactment of reciprocity”. Finally, we compare Steiner's “hermeneutic motion” with some hermeneutical philosophers'conceptions for exemple, those of Paul Ricoeur, Antoine Berman. Accordingly in this paper we seek to investigate Steiner's theory of translation in comparison with others' philosophical or hermeneutical positions.
